Are we going to see proper N64 flash carts which aren't based on cannibalised N64 cartridges anytime soon? What happens when we run out of copies of Superman 64 to destroy? When will we stop having to pay over a hundred dollars for one?

3D printing is a thing.

Can you print circuits?
On another note could we print perfect silicon wafers and use them in processor production.

They call them "Printed Circuit Boards" for a reason.

Although they aren't "printed" by a 3d printer. PCB's, as we will now refer to them as, are sheets of copper attached to a non-conductive substrate (not really sure of the material, some plastic very vulnerable to acids). To create circuits for your electrons to flow through you etch away the non-conductive laminate in the shape of your circuit usually done with laser or chemicals. For small scale productions it's pretty easy to do yourself. You just buy a PCB, print out your traces for the circuit (photo-resistive laminate works better, but plain old printer to magazine paper will work), apply trace to PCB (if you used printer to magazine paper you have to iron on the toner), and then dunk PCB in your chemical solution.

I'm guessing the real question you are getting at is "Is it feasible to make your own N64 carts?".

I hate this argument.

Everything is finite. Millions of n64 games were made. They are pieces of plastic from 20 years ago, they are not sacred relics from a bygone age.

Before carts run out, they would have gotten so expensive due to rarity that people will develop cheaper alternatives.

The fuck are you talking about? If demand gets that high then people will just start producing new ones, like they already do for NES.

Wait a second, do you actually believe that krikzz rips the chips off of an N64 game's circuit board to make a flashcart? The boards in flashcarts are brand new; they aren't rocket science to make.

What ARE currently cannibalized are the plastic cart shells, but like >>1884097 said, if demand gets that high those can also be produced brand new.

Also the price isn't high because of the plastic shell. The price is high because these things are expensive to produce, yo. And for the amount of games (see: nearly the entire library) you get to enjoy for just the entry fee and an SD card, I don't think they're expensive at all.

You're all forgetting the CIC chips. They must be taken from a real game too.

lab made diamonds are going to replace silicone

This. The CIC chips all come from real N64 carts. At this rate, we'll have N64 clone consoles running Cen64 sooner than a reasonably priced N64 flash cart.
