the first megaman is the hardest to play through.

megaman 2 is awesome, but I've been playing that game since I was like four years old, so I could be biased.

megaman 3 is absolutely god-tier megaman, but it's pretty hard.

megaman 4 is pretty awesome; worst music and bosses in the series IMO though

megaman 5 is aesthetically the best game in the series. most of the robot master weapons you get are pretty useless though.

megaman 6 is maybe the most solid entry in the series, even comes complete with oblivious japanese racism. it's cute. also you can wear your dog to punch through walls, so that's cool.

Gameplay is pretty much the same with little tweaks here and there but that's not necessarily a bad thing.The music starts getting really good from the fourth game onward(first in the series has some nicely catch tunes though). 5 and 6 are really enjoyable despite the constant shitflinging those games receive. The weapons in those two are mostly shit though.

Play those. There is a LOT of filler and sequelitis in the MM series. They just cranked out MM games as fast as they could. There is nothing lamer or more boring than a bad MM game. Bad music and it just doesn't work. And there's nothing better than a good MM game. It just clicks. You feel like some hero out saving the world. Each track sounds like some tv show theme song about a hero saving the world.
