ITT: water levels

Actually I normally don't mind water levels, but goddamn is this place annoying. Wouldn't be so bad if the swimming controls in Banjo weren't complete dogshit. It amazes me how Banjo's gameplay is basically a polished version of SM64's, and yet they didn't adapt the swimming controls/mechanics of SM64.

Worst part is the level itself is a load of bullshit, for some reason on MM2 (and ONLY 2, 1 and 3+ don't do this) you can't grab items in mid-air so no farming from the tellys, the long Sniper Joe hall right before the boss that I've yet to find a way to clear safely and the fact that in MM2 (again ONLY 2) you lose all your E-Tanks if you do a Game Over. So it's either you spend hours farming weapon energy on 2 mets or you sacrifice all your E-Tanks for another try.
Even the final boss is more fair, as he has a very short level and he himself is a pretty easy boss that doesn't make you burn E-Tanks, so game-overing is an option there.

The only semi annoying part of that level is when you have to swim through the hoop key way underneath Clanker three times while that really unnerving music plays. You have the fish that gives you oxygen bubbles, but it can be awkward to get them. The long swim back to the top whole your air gets close to zero always makes me tense up. They clearly designed the distance to just be enough air to get you back.

Well that's hardly a unique issue to that specific level, and it's why you don't waste ammo. If you wanted to say MM2 should be more forgiving of using your weapons, that's a completely separate argument.

Also, what are you using the crash bombs for? I've never had this issue.

Also, you're wrong. After you die you can farm ammo. Which sucks, so you should do it the right way.

Also, what the fuck is your problem with the disappearing blocks? They're not that hard.

A lot of bioware and Bethesda games have this problem. They make the initial tutorial levels long and involved (bg2, kotor, oblivion), at the expense of subsequent playthroughs. You're right that farming is hard, but you're not forced to do it in MM2, either, because you can take the boss out WITHOUT having to kill yourself. I'm not sure why people keep saying you're forced to.

Problem is you have JUST enough Crash Bomb, so you miss once you lose. In any other MM game you can avoid farming ammo for a boss that's inmune to the buster by doing a game over and doing the stage again, but in MM2 they take away all of your E-Tanks if you try to do that. So it's pretty much inavoidable

Flyin King was just plain boring. Protip: fly the entire length of the level without bouncing the bomb around, destroy every obstacle, then use the jets on the side of the level to go to the start and bounce the bomb to the end without encountering any resistance. You can bounce the bomb while using the jets to push it way forward, which makes things faster, as long as you don't lose track of it somewhere in the middle.

And Puppy Love re-occurred so many times that it made up literally half the damn game.

i think terra tubes is more challenging, some jumps and the sections where you have to outrun the cogs while staying afloat into the spiked dead ends are much harder than clinger winger. For one, it's shorter. And even if you fail a lot, you eventually get the pattern and will manage to beat it almost always given your timing and reflexes aren't terrible.

Terra tubes just fucking killed me all the time.

plus, Rat Race can be annoying and the snake level requires to git gud at not getting confused / jumping only when necessary, both being harder than turbo tunnel and nobody talks about them

I hope it's ok that CaveStory isn't an actually old game, though...
"Sacred Grounds"...

The game is medium to hard in difficulty up to the last few stages, but if you want to get the best ending (out of three), you have to go though hell, literally. It begins with a really challenging cave with lots of spikes to avoid, then you got a save point and the supposedly four final bosses to beat in a row. This alone took me hours to get. Then you can use that previous save point one last time and enter hell to approach the actual, final boss. Lots of spikes and nasty enemies everywhere, and no savepoint to be seen... It's somewhat like "I wanna be the guy", just without any savepoints.
