I always lurk these threads hoping to jog my memory on all the games I played as a kid, we had a 386 with dozens of awesome games, I really wish I kept it.

Do people talk about overkill here? It was a shmup from epic, I only just remembered it even existed. Downloading now to see if it's as sweet as I remember.

< 3D Movie Maker: the best thing to ever come out of Redmond.

Now, can anyone help me? There is a game I have been struggling to find the name of for years. It was a sort of PC Final Fantasy clone. I think the main character had blond hair, you could get new spells in magic shops. The graphics were bright and ugly, like OP's image. I'm fairly sure the name started with Wolf, but I'm not sure. It seems like it was never well known and is possibly forgotten. I've pretty much given up hope.

There's an old game called VGA Bomb that I inherited from a lady. It was just some floppy disk game probably from the late 80's.

The graphics were super basic and looked like Missile Command or something. You could play against the computer or have versus with 2 people taking turns. You basically fought on a randomly generated battlefield where 2 cannons try to shoot each other. You adjust angle and power until you hit the target. First one to get hit loses.

There have been many games like it since but I've never been able to find it online anywhere. Fun times.

To this day I've yet to beat this game, and I played the fuck out of it as a kid. The closest I got to an ending once was when you could get the Cauldron from the witches, but they start throwing cauldrons at you. I could never time my sword swing correctly and always got hit by one and turned into a frog.

And fuck climbing the cliff. I still have nightmares about that, climbing the castle walls, and them moat gators.

Fox Ranger (by Soft Action, 1992)
Found this one while browsing some DOS games FTP server, back around 1995. Mostly it was freeware/shareware stuff, but this was the full version for some reason...
Anyway it's a good shoot'em up that runs fine on 386-class machines. Starts out easy and then a few stages later starts getting insanely hard. Never did manage to beat it...

I've never heard of this one, sort of looks like one of those 'Do it perfect because FUCK YOU' games, like Another World or Dragons Lair on NES. Seems to have a large fixation with teeth though.

There was this one game, I got it on a 20 games shareware disc so I don't remember it name, or much else, but I remember this:

-Early 3D, low poly models
-You were a human type guy
-Started in a cell in a prison? Could read something that maybe explained why you were there
-Hack laser bars and try to escape
-Enter another prisoner's cell and fight his
-VIOLENT AS FUCK, freaked me out as a kid honestly, like you bleed heaps, he bleed heaps, maybe ripped off your arms if he won?

And that's all I remember. I really wanna see/find it again.

Even something coded in pure ANSI C + ncurses isn't guaranteed to run 20+ years from now without updates/patches. I guess you can test your code on a wide variety of new and ancient systems, and different compilers, etc. but there's still no guarantees.
