So, what retro game do you think has the most scummiest, cheating, not-gonna-let-you-win-period IA of all times? Pic related. I didn't notice this when I was a kid because I was a terrible SMK player but now:

>Be 1st
>2nd uses a star to pass me
>Immediately pulls another one to dodge and jump my red shell
>Then uses a third one to avoid me passing in a tight part of the circuit, all with no single [?] tile in the way.
>Meanwhile, every single IA character perfectly and timely jumps above all the bananas I've placed in their exact route.

FUCKING

BULL

SHIT

Didn't each AI have one specific power? The Mario bros had stars, DKJ had banana peel, etc.
Still bullshit though.

Also Mario Kart 64 AI would cheat by using a series of mini teleports to catch up to the player

Certainly Super Mario Kart is really bullshitty and almost impossible unless you really dedicate yourself to beating it.

AND THEN THERE'S SHIT LIKE POKEMON STADIUM 2

FUCK

I tested it on an emulator, they really cheat the fuck out. Like on the pokemon select screen before a battle, I made a savestate after the adversary had choosen it's 3 pokemon. I picked mine and battled against it. I took note of the first pokemon in battle. I loaded the state then and put a counter against that one pokemon in first. When I started the battle again, the CPU had picked something else instead that was strong against me. Fucking bullshit.

in SMK couldn't you influence which CPU you were up against by changing your character? I remember the game had "rivals" which made it so the fastest CPU characters are always the same based on the character you chose.

So technically, couldn't you make the game much easier by always choosing the character who has peach or DK as a rival? Their banana peel/tiny mushroom items are the easiest to dodge and least effective.

I did some analysis of SF2's damage calculation for a MUGEN conversion not too long ago. There's a "handicap" parameter that factors into how much damage you deal and how much you take.

For a player character, this starts out at a default value, but if you are behind in rounds it can get a boost. For CPU-controlled opponents, this handicap value seems to vary depending on the difficulty level and how far into the game you are (lower for first opponents, higher for later ones). When it gets into the higher ranges, it actually goes beyond the range allowed to a player character behind in rounds, so the CPU literally can do more damage than you can.

Funniest thing is CPU Akuma. If he shows up, the value automatically gets cranked to its maximum for him.

Pokemon Stadium. The gym leaders had pokemon with moves that are not legitimately possible. The biggest example that sticks out in my mind is SURF RAICHU, which is guaranteed to surprise you and completely wipe out the team of 3 rock and/or ground pokemon that you stacked up against his electric pokemon, knowing that none of them could legally have SE moves against you.

IIRC, gamefreak later made surf pikachu available through special events or some bullshit, but still. It was not possible at the time and Lt Surge is a cheating bitch

I don't even know why this fight is so bad on the SNES. It's no big deal on the arcade or Sega CD, but on the SNES, their hitboxes are tiny, and they stay invincible way too long after being knocked down.
