Spent the day playing Streets of Rage 2, Comix Zone and Rocket Knight Adventures.
I forgot to put some games in the pictures (Sonic CD, Cool Spot, Spot goes to Hollywood, 6-Pak). I still need to expand my collection though, Gunstar Heroes, After Burner 32X are my big wants right now, along with Adventures of Batman & Robin.

Never grew up with genesis games, but about a year or so my friend gave me a model one he found in his attic and i've been picking up games as i find good deals at flea markets, garage sales, etc, and this so far is my modest collection. Can anyone recommend some good adventure/platforms i may have overlooked? aside from the obvious (like more sanics)

Ristar and Vectorman 1&2 come to mind. Also, Dynamite Headdy is a good game as well.

Aww, I'm late to the party. Genesis was my first video game console and the only one I had until 1999 (when I got a Dreamcast).

Pirates of Dark Water is a lesser known but still pretty solid platformer aside from enemies being massive cunts at times.

Crusader of Centy is fucking great aswell as long as you remember to talk to people several times.

>> No.1864179

>>1864130
Crusader of Centy is pretty expensive but emulate it before you buy. It's Sega's answer to LttP, it has good music and the story is cute.
Pirates of Dark Water on Genesis is better than the SNES beat em up port which was very average at best.

I'm in the same position as you. DEFINITELY taking notes on this thread.

Are there any non-RPG games for genesis that don't follow the typical "limited continues and no saves" format? I'm digging my genesis, but every single game I have is like that. I'd just like to sink my teeth into something a little bit less arcadey. IDK, something equivalent to link to the past or super metroid.

Also, what are some good top-down shooters? I already know about truxton and of course there's musha, which is fucking great but I don't feel like paying hundreds for it.

>> No.1864232

>>1864210
Crusader of Centy is great if you're looking for a game like Link to the Past.
I can't think of many games that used saves for the Genny, but most of the ones that do used passwords which is fine by me since I'll never have to deal with replacing the batteries.
ToeJam & Earl: Panic on Funkotron, Spot goes to Hollywood, and Ecco 1&2 are all decently lengthed.
Shining Force I&II are great if you're looking for a Turn-Based Strategy.

>> No.1864248

thanks, I'll look into these. Too bad centy is apparently even more expensive than musha though

Anything from Toplan so fireshark, steel empire, philios is good but the verticals like thunder force, gairies, eliminate down, Greylancer are amazing.
>>1864248
not really last time i checked but MUSHA went down from 500 to 150 -200 range loose now. Crusader loose is like 130 loose on ebay

>Over 1/3 sports games

Here's my complete Genesis games, minus about a 10 I can't fit on the shelf. Lucky me I've always liked it better, so I've got a nice little collection already. I want to start getting a few JP games, there were some very cool titles that weren't released in the states.

>> No.1864268

>>1864264
Go for it! there are so many great import titles like pluseman, Alien Solider, Yu Yu Hakusho Sunset fighters, Greylancer, King Colossus, and another game freak game based off an anime at the time.

And thanks for all the suggestions, guys

correct me if I'm wrong, but japanese games can be played on US genesis, right? Only difference being the cartridge can't fit in the slot so you either need to modify the hole (or take off the top), shave away the sides of the cart, or get an adapter?

I might look into this then. Jap versions of games also tend to be cheaper for some reason.

>> No.1864282

A game genie will allow you to play Mega Drive games on a Genesis
>Jap versions of games also tend to be cheaper for some reason.
Not with the Genesis, the Mega Drive did really poorly in Japan compared to the SNES and PC-Engine, so getting games from there is actually really difficult.

damn, well there goes that idea.

>> No.1864292

You can just use a Game Genie to raise the cart slot. Japanese games are cheaper partly because I CAN'T READ THIS CRAZY MOON LANGUAGE!

>> No.1864545

>>1863943
good suggestions, I knew ristar was a good game but ive had trouble finding a loose cart of it for under 20. i did however overlook vectorman, which i'll be looking for in a couple days when the swapmeets back in town.

>>1864130
>>1864179
I would kill for a reasonably priced copy of Crusader of Centy, I think the most id be willing to pay for a loose cart is 30 dollars though which will likely never happen
