Hey, \vr\! So, how was Brutal Doom? I'm interested in trying it.

>> No.1849132

You are? The original game is better.

As a mod, it seems to be trying very hard and the developer has his head up his ass. The original game had class too.

Way slower and more repetitive. Vanilla Doom is outdated.

What's stopping you from trying it?

I've heard it can be kind of polarizing. I'm playing it right now and I'm enjoying it. Personally, I don't think it's any better or worse than the original, but it does feel like a different game somewhat.

A lot of people give Brutal Doom a lot of shit but with all the attention it's been getting I feel like it could be the gateway for tons of new people to enter the oldschool Doom community.

Yeah but it's outdated "gratuitous violence and nonsense". That means to fedora tipping, tumbling, white knight permavirgins that it is now a classy thing, just because it's old. Never mind how crass and disturbing it was at the time of its release, at that time our discerned gentlemen were just swimming circles in their daddies ball sacks anyway, now it is a classy game for classy gentlemen such as themselves and anybody who attempts to add blood effects that are more contemporary is nothing but a ruffian and barbarian and generally scum of the earth in their mind.

I fucking hate Doom hipsters so much. They can all die in a fire.

The old school Doom community? No chance in hell. It's the main problem I have with fancy OpenGL only mods

>I feel like it could be the gateway for tons of new people to enter the oldschool Doom community.

The problem is it does the exact opposite. You end up with retards who only played Brutal Doom that tell other new players to only stick with Brutal Doom and then beg wad makers to make their wads compatible with Brutal Doom. This is a big reason why the modding community really hates Brutal Doom.

>> No.1851730

Alot of Doomers at Doomworld aren't quite happy about Brutal Doom due to the fact that a majority Brutal Doom fans Complain that a Certain Level wad (I.E. Stardate 20x6) Is unbalanced with brutal doom and they could rate that wad a low score on /IDGames.

Otherwise, Brutal Doom just isn't good and is overrated in my opinion.

If I were the guy responsible for BD, I'd be pretty fucking sad about the whole situation. You spend time on something that brings fun to people, and now sizable swaths of the community curse your name. I'd take great care not to be a dick, but still.

You will get alot of diehard fans of the original claiming its a travesty, "awful", or at the least, not as good as the original.
Coming from somebody who loves them both, I can tell you it's a fucking blast. Completed it w/ doom2 last year (does it work on other dooms? guessing it does) and man - one of the funnest videogames i have played in a long, LONG time. Get off /vr/ right now OP, and go play it! I guarantee you will enjoy it. Best mod ive played in recent years

Yeah well you aren't Sgt. Mark IV and thank fucking god. He's a prick with a massively over inflated ego, and honestly believes that Doom 4 is based on his fucking mod, because he was clearly the first person to make a gore mod/TC.

And he routinely rips stuff from other modders without properly acknowledging them. So long as he recolors a few pixels he thinks it's fair game. His own original maps, like Knee Deep in the Jungle, just show that he isn't really super brilliant like he believes he is.

And he has some kind of weird obsession with making every repetitive noise loud and abnoxious.

>>1852589
You enjoyed it because you enjoy Doom 2, Brutal Doom doesn't change Doom's base mechanics enough to make it a significantly different experience along the lines of, say, Project MSX or Samsara. Really you can do a lot of the stuff Brutal Doom does in GZDoom anyways.

I've never really understood the point in making something as a Doom mod if you're going to use a bunch of features that aren't actually Doom features. Some of the mods you see now might as well just be standalone games.

Cool reading comprehension. I'm fine with some new engine features and stuff, as was stated in my original post.

My issue is with shit like Total Chaos, although also with mods that aren't quite as intensive. At this point lots of "doom mods" are basically games that run on an engine that happens to be capable of running doom.

Speaking of substantial gameplay mods, ChocoDoom is surprisingly good for cleansing the palate after getting mod fatigue. I can run it at 320x240 pillarboxed and still get that sense of wonder the first time I Doomed.

It's very fun. It makes the gameplay tighter and more responsive, too. Makes the enemies react faster as well, which is great because in the original Doom they are slow motherfuckers. All in all it's a pretty great mod and you shouldn't worry about what the puritanical autists have to say about it. I'd recommend you play it for yourself and make your own decision about it m8.

It's like a fasttrack Doom course.

At first, it will show you how much of a pussy gamer you are, because you will die a fucking lot.

But you'll quickly get better at it and once you do, playing vanilla doom becomes significantly easier.

It's hard to go back to playing doom without that mode, due to all the fun gory effects and whatnot, though. But it's doable.

I like it a lot but unfortunately my toaster can't handle the latest one. Framerate really dies at times, completely unplayable by the time Dead Simple rolls round. When I tried it for the first time like two years back it was fine, but somehow my toaster can't handle v19.

Oh well.

It's fun for what it is. The weapons feel nice to use and the gore can be very satisfying. It does feel way too over the top with effects at times though, and reloading is a shitty addition to the game. The other crappy additions are all optional though. It also throws the game balance out of whack, obviously.

Who the fuck cares? Vanilla Doom is so ridiculously easy anyway it's a total snorefest. I can't get any satisfaction out of that game anymore (though granted the first time I played it was 20 years ago). At least BD adds some challenge and makes things interesting again.

I don't know, dear retard. I played doom since it was released. I don't give a shit if people play brutal doom now instead of doom. 20 years are more than enough, what's this retarded idea that a game must remain unchanged for so long? it's not like brutal doom is some sort of cawaduty shit, even with reloading, so in conclusion fuck off... Also I see no problem in kids today getting their first taste of doom via brutal doom or if the mod community switched to it, again it's still a doomish fun game and not some boring gay shit.
