Does anybody have calculations on the real-world size and proportions of all the monsters? I was thinking a bit last night about how a cacodemon has to be at least like 7-8 feet in diameter, which would take up like 1/3 the space of my bedroom alone. Plutonia is superior and helped form paradigms on level design that people would later follow much like how Hell Revealed and Alien Vendetta inspire level design in their times.

TNT is underwhelming but you should have a brilliant first time playing through it. TNT is one of those wads that I feel pussy's out on the harder demons and gives you too many weak monsters.

Actually, most people don't do it pixel by pixel, that would be insane, but you can speed the process up a bit with Photoshop and some work.

I've made sprites before but they're all edits/frankensprites, which are easier to do because you don't actually have to draw anything, but...well, you're not really making anything truly new, then, either.

Model rips are more common for weapon sprites, for monsters it usually looks like shit. I think if you did it right, though, you could actually quickly and efficiently make good quality sprites. I think the trick would be to actually model the monster the way the end result sprite would look, i.e. if you were modeling an Imp, the teeth would literally just be strips of white and grey, no further detail. This way you could scale it down to Doom size with a minimal loss of detail/redrawing.

If I do special attacks for the guns, sure.
At the moment, though, I'd much prefer the special attacks stay with the sword, since they give it a much-needed edge against multiple enemies.

Still, at the very least, I like the idea of special moves for the guns.
Firing the pistol at the sword to turn shots into wide sprays, spinning up the lever-action repeatedly before firing/thrusting it forward to fire numerous shells at once, throwing the SMG magazine and shooting it down in mid-air to scatter bullets everywhere, and...umm...hmm.

In preparation for SE v20, I've been looking over some weapon sounds that were kind of lacking. Specifically, the rifle, shotgun, and minigun sounds. I've redone the rifle, retouched the shotgun, and replaced the minigun sounds with the alternate ones with some additional tweaks. For those of your who play with SE, I'd like to hear your thoughts on them, and whether or not they're worth putting into the update. So I've been getting more into Duke Nukem 3D, and was wondering what some good Duke mods are. I've been playing Duke Nukem Forever 2013 and quite enjoy it, I also tried Duke Nukem Eternity, but just cannot get it to run for the life of me, so I gave up on it.

For DNE you need to have Duke Plus AND the HRP installed.
I'm not a fan of either DP or the HRP, but damn I liked DNE. Some of the level design, like the construction site, is really fucking pro.

As for mods, it depends what you're looking for exactly... for classic DN3D gameplay you have episodes like Metropolitan Mayhem and Duke Hard (shameless self advertising).

Then, you have things like WGRealms 2 and AMC TC, which are based on duke3D using eduke32 but which really aren't DN3D anymore and are standalone anyway; but they're good oldschool style FPS gameplay. The WGRealms (1) episode is included with WGR2 but if you ask me, it's better played when playing it as WGRealms1, in Duke3D with Duke3D enemies, rather than playing it in WGR2.
Other standalone eduke32 mods that go even more far away from Duke3D : Sonic 3D TC , Slender Woods...

You can try nuclear showdown which is pretty cool, too. it has cool new weapons and enemies inside a set of good usermaps.

Yeah sorry but I don't think I'll be able to help. I only played it once and I don't remember exactly.
To be honest I always found DNE hard to get running. First of all, by definition due to some of the things it uses, it requires a really damn good computer to play. Then, it requires you to have a gameplay mod AND a graphical mod installed already... mods which, if you don't know already a bit about DN3D modding, you'll have to do a little of research to know what they are... and the instructions aren't very helpful. All that for what, 5 maps? No matter how good your maps are, you're basically asking people not to play your stuff with such a setup.
IMO He should have made a version with the things he needs from DP and HRP (and without the rest, to make it as light a spossible) included in. I doubt the people who made the HRP and DP would have minded.

It's Polymer which is very demanding. It's a whole new renderer built by a community member that EDuke32 uses, and it has some sweet dynamic lights that DNE uses. It's very demanding yeah, plus IIRC it doesn't like ATI video cards...

I consider Caribbean Life to be the greatest thing ever made for DN3D. Sunstorm Interactive were kind of gods of the Build engine back then, as they made add-ons for DN3D, SW, Blood and even RR, and all their stuff is good.

Duke It Out In DC (also made by Sunstorm, but before Caribbean Life) is really good too. It's very solid, but there are things which really show it was their first work with Build. Some sloppiness here and there (like the underground/metro map which plays, feels and looks like some random usermap you'd find on the net in 1996); but overall solid.

Nuclear Winter is garbage. Not worth playing. The best thing out of it is the 2 levels, which are the first 2 levels of DN3D except in reverse, and with snow (and they somehow managed to ruin the maps in some ways too...)

Life's A Beach is anything you would want from a silly summer vacation themed Duke map set. All the weapons and most of the enemies got re-skinned, and the levels fit in thematically as well. They also look very good with very nice texture work.

Duke It Out In DC is a very nice example of taking real world locations and turn them into rather nice and fun levels. Also has good deal of new textures. Too bad the Capitol level sucks.

Nuclear Winter is the worst and REALLY amateurish. Shoddy sprite work. The first two levels are just you playing through Redlight District and Hollywood holocaust in reverse with a winter reskin, and the actual levels set at the north pole look lackluster.

I've told Mike before I tend to not put all my chips on one single table, and he was fine with that. In the off-chance he gets in a car wreck or decides to work on something else, I have a back-up plan.

It's a gameplay mod.
The short of the idea is trying to make melee fun, with faster movement and the ability to dodge through ranged attacks, a powerful sword that stays with you through the whole game and kills shit really well, and a host of special moves to kill shit even better with.
For those who really like their guns or for encounters that require a long-range touch, though, there's some hand-held weapons that can be dual-wielded with the sword so you can cut down incoming fire and then return it.

Speaking of which, Mike finished up the SMG today. Here's how it looks in action.

Doomworld is just a hugbox for the most part anyway, so bad mapsets don't get proper criticism.

The concept is cool, but good god the maps are bad. If you want to see just how boring they can get, load up MAP07 and see for yourself.
Spoiler: It's endless triangle based geometry with shitty texturing and shitty monster placement, along with bad progression.

There's a #doom on the SpeedRunsLive IRC where you can find a few streamers. Most of us do speedruns, and finding non-speedrun Doom streams is tricky.
I can highly recommend hitbox.tv/grav if you're into Doom 64, by the way.

There's going to be a combo race in Vice City and Final Doom: TNT soon, if someone's interested btw.

If you mean gameplay mods, the only one I know off the top of my head is hexercise for hexen in zdoom. Be advised it's meant to be used with fast monsters turned on, otherwise it will be super easy.

MAP01-05 had some neat progression going on. And then you arrive to MAP06...

You start up in the emptiest, undetailed area known to doomkind; after fighting your way through 5 decently detailed levels, booting up MAP06 with just a chaingun and two clips at your sight...

Once you realize where to go, you go through 10-20 seconds inside the most uninspired interiors ever, with absolutely fucking nothing to shoot at, dropping through places with no option of going back (in vanilla form)

-start at 'power on' button (as in, standing in front of it, facing away)
-take right, and U-turn to go up stairs
-keep going until your faceplate smacks into an air vent
-turn right, take the stairs, and look for a green-lit panel on the (now) left wall - that's a door
-go through; if you see a table made of shiny displays, you've nearly made it
-look to your left, where the UAC sign hangs off the ceiling (down more stairs)

Anons, I'm using Zdoom and GZdoom on Linux (Linux Mint 17), and they work fine, but I can't use more than one wad at a time, Dragging (for example) 2 wads to the executable just makes two separate Zdoom/GZdoom iwad selection prompts (one for each wad dragged). If someone could help me on this, I would be happy as fuck.

That's kinda what I thought at first. But at one point Slenderman does something to the player, you get in a gondola that goes up a cliff. When you get in and throw the switch to activate it, and it raises up a bit, and then stops. Slenderman then appears inside the gondola, and the screen goes static, making that screeching noise when you look at him. You awaken later at the top of the cliff.
