IRC: #SimCity on irc.rizon.net

Feel free to discuss city building games from series such as SimCity, Cities XL, Anno, Tropico, Pharaoh, OpenTTD, Banished, Citybound, or any others. Limit discussions to the games themselves.

Reminder: There IS probably never going to be another separate Banished general.

Speaking of Sim City 2000, did the PC version ever have those post-2050 housing types from the console ports? As an expansion or an edit or something.

On the Playstation and Saturn release, after a certain date (sometimes after 2000), all the buildings slowly started converting into a futuristic theme. The green pit is a fusion reactor, the blue and red buildings on the right are police and fire stations, the light blue square tower is a school, the golden saucer is an office tower (commercial zone), and the little mushrooms are residential high-density houses.

The console versions used only 16-colour buildings vs the PC versions 256 colour ones (for memory reasons), so they have cruder shading, but they also had a full rotating 3d cgi model for EVERY single building type.

The density problem is mainly because of the problems I have with demand in this game. My downtown is centralized so its hard to grow high-stage buildings because it's too far for a lot of the sims in neighboring cities, which is why I have all those huge condos in order to spur CO$$$ demand.

Any idea of how to fix this? Also do non-neighboring city tiles have any effect? I've played this game so long and I still don't know much about the demand mechanics.

this is a retro genre, and unlike other shit posted here most of its additions fit into the arbitrary timeline set for the board, the newest at most being a couple years beyond

Shit nigga I have made two posts in this thread, and you think that makes me a psycopathic cunt?

My point is that no one ITT will post city-building discussion elsewhere, because this thread is where the audience for that exists. The only way to change that is by having a moderator action clearly demonstrating that city-building general threads are outside the scope of /vr/ as a board.

I think this thread belongs on /vg/, and if there's not enough volume to support a general then it regrettably belongs on /v/. Because everyone interested in discussions of Simcity and its derivatives is already here, however, a new thread elsewhere would fail. If you are sufficiently buttblasted to complain about it, report the thread. If these threads get deleted, we'll all be forced elsewhere. Until then, you are hurting your own goals by bumping the thread and prompting discussion. Report, ignore, and move on.

Been trying to get into SimCity 2000 Special Edition lately, I've had it since forever on GoG but only just installed it and giving it a whirl now, unfortunately it runs like crap especially in big thick cities, and also sounds like it too, are there any tweaks I can change in the DOSBox config like in the CPU settings and/or sound settings section to help remedy this, or maybe there is a custom DOSBox people recommend for it, as it uses an ancient 0.73 version of DOSBox. How do I succesfully cross NWM avenues and train tracks? Elevated railway doesn't have the pieces. :-|

no NWM has any tunnel or flup capabilities.
it's kinda a pain to deal with when you have to drop a lane for something like this though.

Is that an actual functioning city or just a bunch of props put together?

>> No.1890415

Most of what you see is functional. Houses have workers, commercial buildings have jobs.
The only thing not entirely functional is the train station, but that's because I haven't set another one on the tile near an industrial zone. It's a rural tile, therefore no industrial zone. :)

Tons of low wealth residential demand, medium density zoning,shit-tier desirability and set it to build only euro-contemporary or 1990 houston buildings means that it will build the highest density low wealth apartment blocks it can and only those apartment blocks. Because you've set it to only build one style it has a very limited number of low wealth medium density apartment blocks to choose from, so you get tons and tons of the same style.
