1840573 No.1840573 [Reply] [Original]

Am I the only one that dislikes the DX version of this game? Why are the colors so saturated? It looks ugly.. And besides, the monochromatic colors of the original gave it a more dream-like look. And that ending. Why did it have to be spelled out? Why not leave it to interpretation like in the original?

Anyway I know it's not much for a topic but are there any other remakes that are inferior?

>> No.1840576

>why are the colors so saturated?

because you're playing it emulated rather than on a GBC, which had a pretty washed out looking screen and the game needed to be more saturated to balance out.

>Why are the colors so saturated?

Because the GBC screen has dull colors. LADX looks good in Gambatte since it has color correction to account for the output of the GBC screen.

No you're not. Any update that dumps one of the coolest glitches ever is shit in my book.

I never played the DX version, but from screenshots I've seen, I don't like the color either, I mean it's not bad and I'm sure people who played the DX version first probably can't play the monochrome, but I think the game was designed to be monochromatic, and they did a fantastic work at creating the atmosphere in the game without colors, some screenshots I've seen of DX look kind of clustered, especially dungeons.

while I prefer the original version better, it's obvious it's due to sheer nostalgia, and I LIKE it, that's what nostalgia is about. To me, the game looks like the screenshot I posted, that's how I perceived it as a kid and how it stayed. That water there, it's not blue like in the GBC version, in my mind it's greenish, it's a swamp after all. These little details make me not like the GBC version, but of course the "definitive" is the DX, due to not only color, but extra content too.

Don't fight over stupid things like this guys.
Original's Player's Choice had the best boxart though.

The swamps are a tealish color in DX, if that's a big enough difference for you to even matter at all you're just being autistic. I know anonymous hipster cred regarding games anyone over the age of 16 played as a kid is what this board is about but this shit gets dumb.

I don't think you understand how emulators work. The colors aren't hardcoded in by the game or system, it's a palette choice left up to the emulator developers. Emulated GBC games look super saturated because that's how the GBC screen actually looked. Like shit.

Like whichever one you want. It's just demonstrating different saturation levels. OP revealed that he's actually some kid who played Link's Awakening on VBA-M instead of a real console.

"Real Colors" setting is default, and shows how it would look like on a GBA-SP screen. Gameboy Colors shows how it would look like on an original GBA-screen.

Gambatte has a palette that looks more like a gbc screen.

The same issue happens with GBA and NDS games too.

You should be able to adjust saturation with your video card drivers as well. If you're using VBA-M you can also use sweetfx. You can also use CRT effect if you've got the proper sweetfx and header file. I'd rather something closer to the GBA itself, but the only decent filter I've seen that's close would be the monochrome gameboy one for retroarch, which isn't color or or the right LCD look. All the other LCD filters look wonky. I use CRT filter and pretend I'm using it on an adapter for the TV and shit. It's not ideal but it's not terrible.
