Best idea I got (And might actually be interesting) is to build, say, 5 different rollercoasters that are a single track piece away from being complete. Make them all so that once completed they'll have an excitement rating of 5.5 (or whatever). Make them indestructible, disallow the player to make any coasters themselves, and set the scenario goal to complete the 5 coasters with an excitement rating of 6.

Basically you force the player to put a single track piece in each coaster, and then they have to boost the excitement by 0.5 with scenery and interactions alone.

No way to force it to look good, but, it could actually be a really fun scenario if it was balanced properly.

I'm way too lazy to do it, of course.

Pathing can account for some excitement. So can other rides that the coaster wraps around or interacts with. There's not really any foolproof way...

I'd leave it alone; you don't want to get too dense otherwise it will start getting crowded and not comfy. Several things I can suggest though:
- Put some kind of terrain texture (bare dirt is a good one) under your paths. It'll fill them out and look less unfinished.

- Rename your rides to actual names, even if it's something like "Twist." It looks better than "Twist 1", trust me on this.

Otherwise I'd leave it be. It's good as it is.

Possibly. Keep in mind though that all the banked corners are are at 60 degrees and are very abrupt. The reasoning behind this is that the swinging of the cars will make the transitions smoother though how well they'd do in practice I don't know.

The hill transitions though look awkward as hell though and I don't see a train going through them period, let alone going through smoothly.

That they were; they were one of the first to develop a steel roller coaster (8 years before Matterhorn Bobsleds), were one of the first to develop stand-up rides, and were the only ones to make a successful pipeline coaster (their Ultra Twister model), among others. Yes, they fucked up hard with Windjammer - which ultimately forced them to close up shop, but to say they did not have any influence is wrong.

So which RCT coaster type do you think had the most wasted potential?

The type of coaster that would have been elder god tier had they just given it the track pieces/operating modes that it should have had?

My vote is the air-powered launch coaster. With a decent selection of hills and turn types, you could have made some incredibly neat launched coasters with it.

Honestly, all the Air-Powered Vertical Coaster needed was more variety to the curves and maybe some hills.
I think the suspended Swinging coaster got dicked in RCT. They're not near as nauseating as the stats would suggest. RCT's one-size-fits-all track banking sort of limits a few rides, but totally screws the suspended coaster because it can't even bank.
LIM Launch coaster gets dicked on the stats, too. The lack of booster track in RCT2 limits their design a bit.

"Stratacoaster" is a term given to rollercoasters that reach or exceed 400 feet, just like how gigacoasters reach or exceed 300 feet. You can design a hyper-twister in RCT that reaches 300 feet, which qualifies it as a gigacoaster, so any conventional coaster that reaches 400 feet is a stratacoaster, even if it isn't launched. The naming system isn't always consistent with terms that refer to height.

>"I'm lost!" - your park has either too many paths or is very large. This does not necessarily mean that the guests want to go home, but they might be struggling to navigate around your park. This thought is triggered after a guest has been trying to reach a goal for a certain time, so there are cases of guests complaining about being lost, even though they are close to their goal. Adding Information Kiosks can help to prevent this, but building more direct paths to rides and stalls and avoiding bridges and/or underground passages intersecting with each other is advised.

If you time your block sections really well, you can get a lot of trains on the track without much interruption. If timed correctly, all of the trains should be able to enter their block sections JUST as the train in front leaves it.

I know that. But, the one thing one would expect maps to do - prevent peeps from getting lost, actually put some degree of thought into their pathfinding - they don't do. So if we know what they don't do, what do they do? According to my casual observation, possibly, slightly increase the occurrence of "heading to Ride". Not super helpful and could even be detrimental in very large parks in which guests undertake a death march from one end of the park to the other frequently but that's just speculation.

Right now it's a flat green featureless terrain with a small hill added to it and a few static chunks carved out of the landscape in the blandest manner possible. It needs to be "anything but that".

I cannot tell you exactly what to do at all as this is the time for your individual creativity to be used that will bring it to life, but generally speaking look at the terrain yourself, any even small and relatively featureless space of grass with minimal terrain change is bad and should be changed.

Just take some ideas or general theme and go to town with it, hope that helps.

Looks cool. I think you've got too many 'on your back facing the the sky' sections for a flying coaster though, especially a terrain one like this where you want to make the most of being close to the ground.

I'd remove the second half loop (looks weird this high up) and the barrel roll before it and keep the track inverted and maybe have a low level helix element in the triangular space between the ditch and the hill.

You are offered the chance to have your very own real life roller coaster built. You can fully design it and the area around it however you like and locate it wherever you like (within reason).

However to get the right to do this, you must first ride every single real life roller coaster that has been posted in these threads in the last three months at least once.

Quick /vrct/, go to RCDB and find the most ghetto roller coaster you can find. Here's one by a Ukrainian manufacturer named Analog.

>>1854739
>Scenery
Have it around the coaster. Build tunnels using the scenery pieces you have, place trees nearby, etc. Be creative; the game is great for that.

>On ride photos
It's a part on the track; check the dropdown menu to see if you have it available. Not every coaster has the option.

>Blocks
Where is the block? If you have one block brake before the station you can run two trains since the station and lift count as 2 more blocks. Unless you're trying to do a launched coaster, which requires 2 block brake sections.

If you have a main thouroughfare in your park that is just a single path, split it into two with shops and flowerbeds in the middle. Let me tell you a thing about Hard Rock Park.

This place was a massive disaster to Myrtle Beach's economy, and after one or two seasons it went under because surprise surprise you can't really survive with a half-finished park. There were constant plans for expansion but, as we all know, that never really came to be. After the deal with Hard Rock fell through, another company came in and bought it for basically nothing, rebranded and repainted everything, and met the same demise.

The most damning thing about the ordeal isn't that it failed or that it tried to be the EA of theme parks, it's that the Pavilion was torn down to 'navigate traffic' to the park, which didn't work since one was adjacent to the boardwalk and the other was on a back road sandwiched by a failing contemporary church and a warehouse-turned-sports center. Not the most picturesque view for Led Zeppelin: The Roller Coaster.

I really hope someone buys Time Machine/Led Zep. It might not have been the greatest coaster in the world but from what I heard it was fun and to see a B&M just sitting like that is kinda sad.

Hell, it's the only B&M I know of that's SBNO. All of the others that were are now operating in different locations (Thrill Valley's Gambit is now Goliath at Fiesta Texas and Orochi at Expoland is now at Walygator Parc as Monstre).

I'm having incredibly good luck getting pants-shitting retards onto great rides.

Actually it's not luck, I never knew until someone told me today that you can get people interested in intense rides if you build up their exposure with some ironic shitrides scattered nearby. I was already doing it successfully at the start of this scenario but now that the majority of the guests have been living their lives literally in the shadow of their fears for the last hour, NOW they'll even swarm over the new Royal Purple over there WITHOUT that coaxing because they have grown as people.

Heres what I do..I cant stay away from interlocked loops, Pretzel loops and Cobra Beads when making coasters.

Also fuck block breaks. They are good for making your coaster safer and less nausea but will cut into your excitement. If you have ever ridden Millennium Force at Cedar Point you will know what I mean. No Block breaks and the best ride on the planet.
I do these rules while testing
small curve not banked 3-10 MPH
small curve banked 10-18 MPH

Medium curve not banked 18-20 MPH
Medium curve banked 20-35 MPH

Large curve not banked 35-40 MPH
Large Curve Banked 40-55+++ MPH on a giga, hyper, floorless or hyper you can have a large banked right after a first drop and not have to worry about nausea but don't abuse it on a coaster.

Loops. stay in the 18-25 MPH range any less or more than that and it will jack up your nausea
Woodies are finicky a simple out and back will do just fine but get crazy with it and you will spend alot of time tweaking it to reduce the nausea but the rewards are it will be a long lasting premiere ride in your park if you can get the excitement high and the nausea below 6

While it's broken down: this is my latest POS. It has 6 trains and block brakes everywhere that don't seem to do anything including prevent crashes. Only the last two block brakes, on the very rightmost piece of track (the second one is just out of sight after the short downslope into underground), will prevent crashes and that's because the very last one stops cars and the second last one at least slows enough that they bump into each other at harmless speed when it closes or breaks down.

So how exactly do block brakes work?

If it stops being profitable, it's your choice whether to leave it operating or remove it. It depends on the kind of ride it is. A rollercoaster can remain popular and profitable for years, but something like a ferris wheel will lose popularity over time, and will need to be priced cheaper and cheaper until it's no longer profitable... but they're very easy to replace, just plop a new one in the same spot and color it the same.

I use Block breaks if I want 3 or more cars on a big Gigia or Hypercoaster. Im still kinda fuzzy on the whole concept but from ive seen and used if you put one towards the end of your coaster it will hold one train while the other is in the station and another is climbing the lift hill.

It works great for coasters that will only hold 2 trains like a gigia and hyper but TIMING is everything!! If you dont time it right it will hold one train at the top of the hill and the other at the station while it waits for the train to either complete the circuit or hit the next block break.

Keeping the coaster flowing with block breaks is very tricky but its usefull if you dont have room for a long station and want more cars or want to add a 3rd or 4th car to a hyper or gigia.

Block breaks won't reduce the excitement like regular breaks will. Im the guy who did the interlocking loops and said fuck block breaks..it was late and I was tired I meant to say regular breaks. I try to avoid them BUT have used them when I need to, like if coming up to a curve to fast.

This is my Woodie..Took FOR FUCKING EVER to tweak it to get the Nausea down. BUT its the jewel of the park.

Oh and I know its cheating but paths over, under and right next to Paths, Other rides, and the coaster track itself will boost excitement greatly esp Paths and other rides!! And of course scenery but you knew that already

Repainting helps a bit getting peeps interested in an old coaster. Also putting an Entertainer that walks just around the ride helps alot too and some high end scenery right at the ride entrance helps getting peeps on your ride too.

But if nausea AND intensity are high and excitement is low, it will get old quick and no one will ride it. For me in order for a coaster to be successful I try to keep my Nausea below 6. below 5 is perfect. And Intensity below 9 if I can help it. 7-8 is perfect. But in the 9 range can't be helped on some rides. Any intensity above 10 and no one will ride it.The best rides are when excitement is higher than intensity and nausea. 6 will get old quick but 7.50 is good 8++ is great and if you can tweak it to 10++ then you have a ride that peeps will always love.

The rides that I really like in real life but can NEVER get to work right without the nausea thru the roof is the inverted coasters. They look great but peeps will vomit like crazy and just avoid them all together after a while :(.In RCT1 the Flying coasters did great but in RCT2 not so much

Well I know that restrooms reduce a guests nausea. Sometimes not all the way.

And I know how its fun to be evil in RCT but the most underrated way to be evil is put your food stands right next to your extreme coasters..Then fire all of your Handymen

If I had to nitpick for faults of this game, it's that the supports for big roller coasters are way too thin, generally look goofy, and aren't very realistic.

I'm disappointed that the excitement on this coaster is less than the intensity. Thoughts?

>>1863440
Meh, that's something you can fix with scenery.

>> No.1863471

>>1863457
It could be that repeating excitement-generating tricks over and over reduces their effectiveness. I don't know if it's that smart a calculation though.

The scenery is ridiculously sparse in that area, so you can still improve that rating a lot.

>> No.1863475

>>1863471
I know I can get the ratings to E>I>N territory if I add scenery around the station and queue, but I wanted the excitement to be higher before scenery.
This must be what autism feels like. First, you're just a little disappointed in a perfectly okay 8+ excitement coaster, the next thing you know, you spend one hundred hours on a custom scenery map that doesn't even function as an amusement park...

Nah. The game won't let you build two rides too close together. Vertical clearance is one of the criteria that decides how close you can build things together.
You know, safety regulations. It's also the same reason rollercoasters can't actually cross tracks and whatnot.

>> No.1863563

That would be very cool..with a guardrail that will keep guests from walking thru.

I've always wondered why they never put chance games in RCT. Its about the only thing that is in every Amusement park in the world that is not in RCT. Ring toss, Shooting Gallery, Milk Bottle pitching, Basketball shot would be great vacant space killers..Im sure they will be in the Next Rollercoaster Tycoon....

Psshhhhh HAW!

Now im sad knowing that the next RCT will be horrible. Please dear god let me be wrong..Ill do anything.. ill quit fapping..Just let the next RCT not suck and be amazing. Even if its a pure 3d clone of RCT2 with some new rides ..Id be happy with that...Amen

I would too! That last two RCT2 expansions stunk. With some exceptions you can tell when Chris Sawyer left. I wonder what hes up to these days. If the makers of the new Rollercoaster Tycoon have any sense they would get him involved toot-sweet..The most off putting thing for me about RCT3 was the lack of Sawyers carousel music. (And other things)

I still remember when Corkscrew Follies came out for RCT1..Best expansion ever.

Frontier's doing a new coaster game as well. Good news it actually looks a fun spin on the whole RCT concept.
