so i just built me a win98se box with a nice video card and plugged it all into a 37" sony trinitron via s-video.. but who gives a shit.

What i do give a shit is what to use this stack of blank CD-R's for, since I can't seem to find a disk image mounting utility for 98se from a trusted source, and would rather use physical copies anyway

So far my to-do list includes XvT, full throttle, mein doom, and a couple others, but honestly, i was a poorfag growing up and didn't have time for no gaemz, since i was out doing farm work with my grandpappy and wrenching on things as soon as i could hold a wrench.

TL; DR vintage PC gaming. Less shitposting about hardware, more software, absolutely no emulation.

Go to "CD & DVD Tools"

Keep your /vr/tual bro thanks: I prefer either a screenshot of you enjoying your retro, or some random pic of pic-related.

I forgot to add:

>absolutely no emulation
B-ut you are asking us for hardware emulation, anon!

Anyways, I hope you enjoy your gaming. Use those blanks to make perfect 1-to-1 copies of your disks, because i's just good to archive your stuff.

You'll definitely want to try the classic, pre-2000 Tomb Raider games. Play TR1 and TR2 at least, as I find them to have the best atmosphere. As I recall it, as long as your burned disc of TR1/TR2 is a 1:1 copy, you don't even have to crack them. I know for certain that at least Tomb Raider 1 is this easy.

You should get yourself Blood for that badboy. You'll be one of the few people running it flawlessly in 2014.

Daemon Tools 3.47 should work fine. It doesn't come with a built-in imager though.

answer is play some Crusader: No Remorse

Controls take a minute to get used to, but the gameplay is stellar and the soundtrack is pretty badass too

Protip: Game needs to be run from pure DOS, it doesn't like how Windows handles memory

The layout is a bit unusual, but there is a logic to it. Once you have the controls by muscle memory, you do get very fine control of the character.

Stellar is quite a bit more than what the gameplay is. More like okay at best. Unless by gameplay you meant explosions. Because the control is fairly stiff, the gridded movement is a bit wonky, the jumping is awkward, the aiming also wonky. I usually don't define non fluid, jerky games with unrefined controls and questionable collision as 'stellar.'

Rocket jockey was an interesting game. There's a remake of it, looked like it sucked though.

The New Adventures of the Time Machine.

Good luck if it doesn't run the first time though. That fucking game is stingy about what it runs on.

actually you should have installed win95 with a full version of dos. then you can play dos games natively, and run games that ONLY work on win95. AFAIK, win 98 can't be installed from dos?

most of games that were made during the win98 and NT era should work on win95 too, but not the other way around.

alos MW3 is probably the best looking 3D game you can play on win98. but you'll need a good voodoo card? if you can still find that

pure DOS b0rks my sound, motherboard doesn't support some things that are necessary for soundblaster usage. Major pain in my ass, even dosbox soundblaster emulation is choppy as shit. if my southbridge doesn't support ddma, would a PCI sound card work?

Carmageddon 1 and 2 sound about right.

I generally hit up http://www.legendsworld.net/main/legendsworld since it covers nearly every genre and sorts everything by year. I always end up finding something that strikes my interest.

Modern Warfare 3 requires XP or later.

Just kidding. I think that the best looking RETRO game on Windows 98 is probably the original Unreal, Unreal Tournament, or Quake 3. UT2004 runs well on 98 but that ain't retro.
