Not OP but I've never understood the issues with baby mario's crying. It never bothered me back in the day, and I think /vr/ is the only place I see it brought up.

Besides, the crying only happens when you fuck up, and it's a pretty easy game to get through without fucking up alot. You hear the crying for a couple seconds per level tops, unless you really suck at the game.

You can say this about DK64 but using it against DKC3 is just grasping at straws. It had only had one more collectable than DKC2 in the banana birds, and you only needed those if you wanted to 103% the game.

Less responsive and less intuitive. Jumping takes longer than what most people, or at least me, would expect. It's slow and just feels off. In my opinion, Metroid Fusion has much better controls. Zero Mission was good too, although it felt maybe a little bit too fast.

For some reason, IV's popularity has decreased over time, but the same happened to all other classic Castlevania titles I think, the only one that still gets reccommended around is Rondo of Blood, and I think it's mainly due to retro cred due to it being the "exotic" PC Engine title nobody could play back then, and also Dracula's Curse for its difficulty (also "retro/"hardcore" cred), but I remember back in the day, games like Castlevania IV or Bloodlines were considered amongst the best, nowdays people only ever talk about Rondo (which is an amazing game, but not the only one) or the metroidvanias, it's kind of weird.

It's not about AVGN or what games he likes or dislikes, it's about young people who weren't alive back then and are forming their own ideas on old games based on the kind of stuff they watch on youtube, which is often more comedy than actual knowledgeable guys, such as AVGN or Egorapter. They're fine comedians, maybe, but their opinions on videogames aren't more worthy than yours or mine, yet kids value their opinions as if they were some sort of gurus.

Just to clarify, I don't give a fuck about AVGN or Egorapter, in fact I think they both hold different opinions, AVGN likes Castlevania IV, and Egorapter doesn't, or something. Either way, form your own opinions, that's what I mean, and by that I mean play the games for yourself. But I guess for some people, their opinions on certain games are already forged by the kind of youtube celebrity they like.
I admit some of our tastes are forged by nostalgia though, but I prefer nostalgia over e-celebs, any day of the fucking weed.

gng is an arcade action game. no exploration, all highscore, 1cc-ing, and gitting gud

by adventure I also mean action adventure, which is like an action game with adventure game elements... Zelda, "Metroidvanias", I'd consider mario world + yoshi's island platformer adventure because of how they encourage exploration rather than focusing on the action.
