I feel like any redeeming factors that this game may have had were probably destroyed because of how many people watch AVGN and are easily swayed. It's not the only game it hasn't happened to, that's for sure. Before the days of Youtube, I would just go to planetemu and download whatever at 2.3kb/s and hope to god nobody would call my house or even think of using the phone. In the good ol days picking a game was an investment and you played what you had. Haven't played this yet but I plan to before making an opinion and so should everyone else.

Here's my gem.
Undercover Cops is a beat em up by Irem, and if you like one beat em up you usually like them all. I'm not even sure if it came out in American arcades. This game has the signature difficulty that Irem is known for and you'll require some good reflexes to get the good ending. Also there's two versions of the arcade game. One is the original version, and the other is a retooling of the game with more drum samples in the music as well as more super moves. (last time I checked)

Have fun!

>>1835807
You mean the alpha renewal. It's not as much a retooling as it is the actual finished version of the game released for the international market. The japanese version had all the changes in backgrounds and special moves as the alpha renewal, so it's pretty likely the other world rom was a playtest machine or a rushed release.

It was the first version released and it bombed terribly from what I heard, mostly because it wasn't as finished as the Japanese version.

You can't just say things like that without offering at least some explanation, OP.

I feel that Sunset Riders has kinda been forgotten. Haven't seen anyone talk about it much. The SNES version is one of my all time favourite shooters, and definitely up there with Contra as a co-op game.

I wrote in another thread about batman forever like 2 weeks ago. Can only speak for the genesis version.

As >>1835807 said, people were very easily swayed. I still kinda feel the same way about superman 64 (it's a terrible game, but by no means is it unplayable or impossibly difficult) You get the games you get and you used to immerse yourself in the experience.

People that didn't grow up with this game probably won't like it. It's not a great game by the standards of it's time, but if you got a weekend with this game and a good friend to suffer through it with, it's a whole hell of a lot of fun. My brother and me were dying laughing at the "FORGET ABOUT IT" thugs and just the random bullshit that would happen that didn't make any sense. In a sense, this game in co-op mode is a lot like watching sharknado. It's not good, and it's flaws are very obvious. Even comical. But that's what makes it so much fun. It gets old fairly quickly, but me and my brother would go back to it every now and then.

If you were to play it now, especially not playing it co-op, you will probably hate it if you just try to pick out it's flaws. Just try to have fun with it and play it and expect it to be silly and campy. The controls are easily the worst part about it, and even they are responsive.

I don't think this is a hidden gem, but it's certainly underrated due to how much shit it gets.

My retro hidden gem is Road Rash 64. Dave Mirra BMX 2 is probably my all time favorite, still to this day they have not had any improvements over any extreme sport simulators outside of skateboarding which I personally find boring.

OP here,
Batman Forever is one of the most despised games out there and would immediately garner responses such as this >>1835779 from people who I doubt have seriously ever played it or given it a fair chance outside of what they've heard from some dipshit youtuber.
I had the game when it was relatively new and loved it, I still do. It's Mortal Kombat on steroids. I didn't find out about its bad rep til the internet. The controls are a mere learning curve and once you figure out how to execute some moves it is immensely fun, I absolutely LOVE the grappling moves; arm breaker, head butt and knocking two opponents heads together is a blast!
It's a game I can pick up and play whenever I want a good time and never lets down.

And you're the same guy that keeps essentially trolling by saying anybody who doesn't like it is parroting the AVGN to defend the game. AVGN barely even spoke about the game. He didn't even get past the first level if I remember right. I honestly feel like you can only enjoy it -if- you didn't grow up with it. Like Bubsy 3D is horrible but it's amusing in the sense that it actually exists. If I bought it back then I'd probably despise it, though. I can't enjoy Batman Forever, though. Too many bad memories of trying to just because I had nothing else to play at the time.

If you ask me the underrated one is Adventures of Batman and Robin. That game is legitimately incredible and nobody talks about it. Or they just ignore it for the Super Nintendo version which is boring as hell.

>A dark jungle that you have sneak at night
>A warehouse
>A ship transporting mass-produced Meta Gear units
>A mined compound in the middle of a desert
>A moving train
>A second desert compound
>Three communication buildings connected by cable cars
>A castle
>The factory where the new Metal Gear is stored
vs.
>Generic Building No. 1 with three floors, a basement and a rooftop

Best Sci-fi RPG I've played. While the music and graphics isn't much to write home about the gameplay is excellent if you enjoy turn-based D&D rules. You even get a ship later in the game and are allowed to freely explore the inner solar system, fight turn-based ship-to-ship combats and even board enemy ships with your party.

Strongly recommended to any sci-fi fan, just don't be put off by it's graphics and sound. Give it a chance to grow on you.

Stunning graphics, good controls, fun gameplay and probably one of the most cool soundtracks that genesis ever showed, made by the man Jesper Kyd himself, although I must say that second half of the second level is complete bullshit that can easily scare away almost anyone who tries this game, ridiculous difficulty in general doesn't help it either.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tHgdgRBUKhU
Also, while talking about Kyd and his work I also need to call out two other games, the Red Zone, which is probably of the most ( if not the most ) graphically advanced games on system, has godlike soundtrack, but hard as nails, so does the third game on genesis, soundtrack of which is Jesper's work, the Sub-Terrania.

This is a fucking crime that this game is so under the radar! I loved playing this during my childhood and I still do! It was a little dark compared to the games I've played but I loved it anyways. The story was interesting, the controls were pretty smooth, and the missions could be a challenge if you're not prepared (especially if you want the real ending). Yeah, there were also multiple endings, if you fuck up, the game tells you that YOU FUCKED UP.

Played it after someone in /vr/ said something like this, it's far from being the best batman game, but it's far from being a horrible or unplayable game (I've only tested the Genesis version, don't know if the SNES one is like this). Could be the fact I've already played many really horrible games like Slaughter Sports on Genesis or US Gold game ports, but if I had to rate it won't put nothing below 5, it has its redeeming factors like the dark atmosphere. As the game play like Mortal Kombat, if someone made a hack like Mortal Kombat 2 Unlimited adding combos or changing the characters to make a game like Sub Zero Mythologies would be nice.

Always looking for more PS1 hidden gems/underrated classics. Some that have stood out to me:
>No one can stop Mr Domino
Fun, nice concept, well put together, too hard and pretty short though.
>Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX
Always overlooked because of the superior Tony Hawks games, but this has good variety and secrets and 3 different groups of challenges for each level which is nice.
>Team Buddies
Good humour and emphasis on fun make this a must. Actual gameplay is somewhat repetitive but rewarding
>The Italian Job

Though not the best in the series and not sanctioned by Kojima, it's still pretty awesome and features some of the best music in the series.

Best to view its setting and story as some of Snake's drunken rants at an Alaskan bar, shortly after a solitary action movie marathon.

Side-scrolling parts are pretty raw, but the game's pretty wild, and as you mentioned the soundtrack is fantastic. A lot of people give it shit that it doesn't deserve.
