I loved the Shinra Mansion.
Great atmosphere.
But yeah, random encounters every 2 steps were annoying.

Currently replaying FF6 and I tell you, that game has an even worse randcom encounter rate. Your progress gets halted so much you start to get sick of battles.

There is a relic that cuts the random encounters in half. But I feel you. Recently went through the game and glad it was on an emulator where I could fast forward. Random encounters ruin replays

That's why Chrono Trigger is always fun to replay.

Probably with DOSBox's IPXNET function. It's a really good piece of software.

Wow, this is the completely wrong
thread.
Sorry. That's the last time I try to post from the front page on a phone.

The random encounter rate skyrockets in the mansion right? I feel like it doubles at least. I guess that's the trade off for the combo numbers being pretty simple to find.

Except the transition from screen to battle takes a while. It's cool at first but after the one-trillionth time...

Especially in Lost Sanctum in the DS port. God fucking damn bitch.

>> No.1831691

>>1831660
I only played the SNES game and the PS port.

Transition times in the SNES are a non issue. Loadign times on the PS port render the game unplayable.

>Except the transition from screen to battle takes a while

As I remember, it was pretty instantaneous, while in FF you have this swirl effect and the game loading the battle.
In CT, the enemies just jump in place and there you go.

>>1831719
in the original snes version of FFVI you get a second long transition to battle screen, a second passes by there and you are all set.

The only FF with any actual issue with battle transitions is IX.

>> No.1832148

is there an archive of FFVII's prerendered backgrounds anywhere on the internet? or the other two playstation FFs, for that matter. those games had some inspired world design, especially VII.

the only one i've managed to find is Chrono Cross's: http://www.chronocompendium.com/Term/Locations_%28Chrono_Cross%29.html

They're all on the FF wiki, but they're on the location pages, not in a compilation.
