Like, instead of a box of rockets, it's a plain cardboard box with some purple wrapping paper sticking out of it.

Doom format is the regular Doom mapping format, the one used for Doom/Doom 2/Plutonia/TNT, etc.

Boom format is another mapping format which lets you do more fancy stuff while still being vanilla, normally used by modern vanilla mappers which want to do more complex stuff while still sticking to what you would normally do in a classic mapping format

Both of them are pretty simple to get a hold of, and are quite well accepted as someone's first proving grounds in mapping.

I decided the Hammer just wasn't enough of a nuke.

So I gave it a Project-MSX-style charge-up fuck-shit-up thing. Does about 5000 damage on successful hit, and that's before taking into account the explosions and lightning it spawns around the room.

If I have to digitize sprites, I rarely use hands.
Usually I just end up just using barrels or something.

Unless that's the iron-sight graphic, it probably would be pretty odd and goofy looking at that angle.

Also, in my opinion, you should size down the source graphic to Doom size, a lot of the blemishes disappear like that, and detail isn't as "thick" so to speak.

A while back I had a .45 Springfield 1911 Range Officer, but I sold it. After the Sandy Hook shooting, ammo prices went through the fucking roof, so I after that I rarely got the chance to use it. Kept the grips. I put some Hogue grips on the springfield which I ended up not liking after awhile.

This is the Rimfire 1911A1 100th Anniversary Edition by, believe it or not, Walther. Discontinued, obviously. Bought it in Winter 2011, which was the 100th anniversary year of the pistol.

Say, if you're ever interested in a centerfire 1911 again, Rock Island Armory makes some very decent ones in the 300-400 dollar range, from 9x19mm to .45ACP. They used to have a big ugly logo on the side of the slide, but they made it more subtle a few production runs ago, so now they're basically GI models. Them Filipinos can make a good gun for cheap!

I hear a lot of the panic buying has largely died down, but that a lot of places are still short in things like .22LR, while other places are fine.

I'd suggest any make but Kimber, they're not very consistent in the quality control, and they often fuck over customers having problems with their products (which happens a lot).

If you want a nice 1911, I'd suggest some other brand, Ruger, Smith & Wesson, etc.

Your linedefs are facing the wrong way, buddy. Notice that the center lines of the switch platform are facing inwards instead of out, which is where the player would activate them from. Highlight them and press 'f' to flip them. You can only activate switches if the line is facing you.

You don't really set up sectors, you set up lines. Set the line up for any W1 or WR line special involving a door--for monster closets, the best one is a Door Open Stay or Door Open Stay (Fast) depending on how fast you want to do it. Then tag the line and make sure the door(s) are tagged the same

Monster teleport traps are very similar, you just make a little sector elsewhere that the player can't reach. Now join that sector with any sector that the player will shoot in, usually nearby where the trap will spring. Press J to join (NOT MERGE) sectors. Now set your walkover line (or switch or whatever) to open a door right next to the monsters in the monster sector. Right next to this door, create 2 more sectors, one small and one large, with the large one furthest away from the monsters. Make the line separating the two a teleport repeatable line, with the destination sector being wherever your trap is. Make sure you tag the destination sector and put a teleport destination Thing there.

Ever since I played Torn City (Ghouls Forest derivative) all those years ago, every now and then, the Creeper would show up in my nightmares and stalk me.

He doesn't ever really catch me, he just chases me, and I keep running from him, I even feel myself hitting the Tab key to look at the automap, and I see him following me, there, and I see him nocliping through things, short on my heels.

The dreams weren't ever very common, and they're less common now, but they pop up on those odd occasions.

Yeah, this is the idea I'm going with. While the hammer is definitely strong as hell (it's basically a fecking divine nuke), strong is...pretty much all it can do. It's not fast, it barely builds up style/special, it can't block projectiles, and getting to the max is slow as hell. I'm also considering making it a two-handed weapon, so you can't use the hwando along with it--so if you want that power, you have to really invest in it. No sacrifice, no victory.
Whether it'll actually be that way in practice, well, we'll find out. I'm eager to see how people use it.


I nerfed it just today, actually.
It no longer affects bosses, and its damage is halved. So while it's still powerful and a constant stream of damage, it's no longer a Cyberdemon two-shotter.

I'm totally new to doom modding and custom .wads. I played a little of Brutaldoom, wich was alright. (But not the lmao i can't play the original ever again people made it out to be.)

The sounds were very annoying and different from what i expected, the repeating zombie and imp screams in particular.

Hey /doom/, my friend and I made a terrible OC just to put another friend into pain, enjoy.

His name is Chillax guy. He's ten times faster and stronger than doom guy, and he can take BFG blasts to the face, and he has demon magic that lets him eat demon's souls to go into hyper darkness mode. He can one shot the cyberdemon with his fists and his armor is covered in unecessary spikes that constantly bleed.

His weapon is a hybrid between Guts dragonslayer and the BFG with shotguns attached to it and it can kill anything in less than one hit, and he's gone through hell fifteen times and never gotten hurt. Also all the enemies were replaced by Cybie.

Also he's half demon himself but the reason he's super extra important and special is that he's half demon, but the other half is also demon so he's a double demon which makes him better than everyone else. Oh also he constantly glows with darkness and demon power and doesn't need to breathe, eat, or sleep. When demons invaded earth, he lost his girlfriend Daisy who had DDDD tits, but it was alright because Chillax guy took her out of hell in 3 seconds and made her cum 29 times on the way back.

I've halved the amount of Style you get from special moves and increased the amount you get from normal attacks by 1/3rd, so it should be much easier to build up the meter normally.
I also dramatically increased the style/special you get from the hammer, so you'll be able to pull off more moves while using it.

Should I give the hammer special moves as well, or save that for just the hwando?


Hmmm, all right. I'll reduce the amount of total grenades, then.
It's definitely not supposed to outdo the shotgun, but at the moment the shotgun uses much more ammo while the grenade launcher is much faster.

It's an odd mishmash of maps. Basically they tried to condense Plutonia Experiment, TNT, and some of the Master Levels into one 30 level game, rather than the 84 levels of all those individually. It's the Playstation version of Doom other than that, which plays well, controls fine enough for the time, is a tiny bit chuggy frameratewise on bigger maps but it's still playable.

I couldn't get into it, because some of Final Doom's maps are ridiculously unfair without some kind of saving. Playing the PC version lately, I'm enjoying Final Doom as a whole more, though Plutonia over-relies on chaingun guys. Shame, cus that maze map with the Archviles was a fun as heck idea.

That depends entirely on how the map uses it.

You just put it out in a wide arena where you can dance around him without a care in the world? Yeah, that's not too exciting. It was hot shit back in 93', but it's not hugely different from a Baron aside from it's size and splash damage.

Now, what can make a cyberdemon FUCKING TERRIFYING, is if he has the high ground on a battlefield, high up on a pillar or platform or something, where he can rain down fucking fury on you, all while you're fighting hordes of actual monsters, scores of pinkies, imps, cacos and zombies, the only real cover is one or two walls, maybe three, one of them isn't too tall so you have to hug it to hide from his line of fire, it's either that, or hugging the platform he's standing on, which can sometimes work, and sometimes not, depending on it's height, how the field is built, etc.
Alternatively, the cover can also be trenches, or a mixture of trenches and walls, but there must be lots of clear and dangerous ground where you have to haul ass or be obliterated.

You basically have to dodge his barrage of rockets while fighting the other monsters, avoiding getting hit, keep moving or you're utterly fucked! Friendly fire can be very easy to set in motion, or next to impossible, depending on how the map is shaped.

OpenGL and freelook, no auto-aim, instead I use a dot, colored red, to place my shot (auto-aim feels unnatural, and like cheating).

I do utilize jumping and crouching at times, to maybe avoid getting cornered by hungry pinkies in the last minute (as in, crawling into a crevice, or jumping up on a ledge or jumping up onto them and running on their heads to escape encirclement and gangrape), but I will not climb ledges or crawl through windows on vanilla maps, or vanilla style maps, as that's breaking sequence.

Maybe a shortcut to get away from a volley of fire faster, but never to break sequence or skip progress through a map. Combine this with Doomguys impressive speed, and he can be amazingly maneuverable.

Stupid question here, how can i prevent mobs from spawning in Urban Brawl bonus level "Zomg! Zombies"?
No monsters or any other thing doesn't seem to work, since the level itself has built in mob spawners like icon of sin. Do any of the sourceports use a flag for preventing icon of sin from spitting monsters or similar? gzDoom ain't have one.

There's pretty much no 3D models made for Doom that look good.

Digitized real world models like the original? Yeah, that works. Prerendered and then processed? That can work too, Strife did that.
Voxels? Can work for static objects, switches, and certain effects, but it's processor intensive if you have too much of it, and difficult to animate. Pic related.

Pushing enemies isn't necessary when Blaz is very capable of murderlizing everything.
I always use the big explosion ball because it kills little guys with ease and hurts more.

I'm not comfortable with further raising the hatchet's power, shit packs a wallop as is, and it's a utility subweapon. I've buffed the lance for the upcoming version though, I'll lower the stamina use of the shield, raise the damage of the big ball even further, maybe lower the knockback a little so it can more effectively shred shit.

I need to buff the audio power of the primary fire for the power cannon too, make them fly faster, and hit harder I feel.

also I don't know what you're talking about the powered boomerang for, I removed that in the latest version, unless you're talking about the boomerang throw that you can do for the unpowered sword.

Hey hello people!

A while back on these threads someone brought up an old modified IWAD called "Doomhack" in which you play as Dick Gumshoe from Phoenix Wright, and the DeHackEd patch inside made your life a weaboo hell.

So what they were asking was "If it's illegal to distribute this because it includes official assets, can someone turn it into a PWAD?"

I did, and then promptly misplaced it after giving it to that anon. (And everyone else in the thread.)

Well I found it again and decided to pop go a step further this time. I've made two versions of it, one with the modified Doom 2 maps left intact (but still missing enough content that you can't use it as an IWAD) and one that does not contain the maps, so it can be used with other map packs. Pic related, it's Alien Vendetta map32.

Now I'm not sure about a release of this, but I have emailed it's creator about what he thinks about this and if he's okay with me doing it. Even so, until then, this was an easy fix. If anyone's interested I can go ahead and host it up.

If you use mutators to disable most of BDs unnecessary features like reloading, bloody screen and ads then it becomes enjoyable sort-of vanilla like with pretty visuals

A lot of people don't like how messy it is, the monster screams and all feel kinda sadistic. Doom's gore feels kind of innocent. It's almost like comparing Hostel to the Evil Dead

That being said, I can understand why you like it. For somebody more used to modern shooters Brutal Doom feels refreshing.

um you forgot to mention that a lot of people dislike the creator, Sgt Mark IV, for harassing some suicidal kid. Some of these people still enjoy Brutal Doom but choose to not support him. Though iirc other people are in charge of its development now.
