If you enjoy D&D RPGs and sci-fi you can't go wrong with Buck Rogers Countdown to Doomsday. Best Sci-fi RPG I've played just don't expect much of the graphics and music but the gameplay is top-notch. You even get your own ship eventually and you can fly around in our solar system fighting turn-based ship-to-ship combats and even board enemy ships with your party.

I just remember being a kid and making it to the boss of Xmen 1 with my brother ONCE. ONCE.

We got together not too long ago, a decade and a half later, and tried to play Xmen 2. We were promptly destroyed.

I gave up and he played for 2 hours straight, saying he was going to beat at least the second level.

Watching him slowly but surely get better reminded me that this was how we beat all the games as child. Many hours of repitition and wrote memory.
