I just got a PS2 and I'm getting it hard to find good RPGs. I just finished Disgaea and it was meh. It looks like the good RPGs died with PSone.
Can you guys recommend me some good RPGs for PS2?

I played FF10 a few years ago and it was horrible, and FF12 ughh, the most masculine looking character was Ashe, what is the obsession with square with making men metrosexual. IMO FF9 was the last great FF. I'll try suidoken, any other game like FFtactics for PS2?

The PS2 is basically the godsend of JRPG's, titles that would beat the last and current generation hands down, probably the next one too...

This, however is /vr/ and PS2 is not considered retro. Try posting your thread in /b/ because your thread will invariably be ignored on /v/ (and why the fuck would you want to go there anyway?)

It depends what you consider to be a good RPG. Disgaea is more like a turn-based strategy game with a shitload of grinding elements and a little role-playing in there too (there is a story but it takes up of 10% of the game, even less with the sequels).

If you play RPGs to grind for extra shit and customize your party, Disgaea is a pretty fun series. The first one is more monotonous but they made things more oiled and faster with the sequels. Also unless you have a boner for Konoko from Oni voicing Etna, you should play the PSP versions which add shitload of complete must extras: most importantly the ability to skip battle animations for Disgaea 1, and way too much stuff for Disgaea 2.

If you play RPGs for the storylines and walls of text, check most of the fAtlus games - Mana Khemia 1-2, Ar Tonelico 1-2, etc.
For Ar Tonelico, you should know that the first one is a RPG with a VN built in, while the second one is a VN with a RPG somewhere in there.

I'm looking for two games that were on one of those multiple game collection cds that came out all the time in the mid 90s. Both were from the same disc. One was a chemistry sim that gave you a bunch of different test tubes and beakers to play with and let you choose what chemicals to mix in them and let you put them over a burner to heat them up. The other was a RPG of some sort, that I don't remember much aside only having a single character and the equipment screen was a picture of a generic warrior dude with the equipment in each slot shown next to the area it would go on(ie: helm next to the head, sword next to the right hand, boots next the feet). If it helps out one of the other games on the same disc was a shareware version of one of the Exile games.

I can't remember the name of this game. It wasn't a horror game, but it made use of mode 7 on the SNES. It was an rpg where you would take a dragon/chocobo type npc to get to another. You would fly high into the sky with this dragon. It might have been Secret of Mana.

I personally love it, since I like creative RTS games that don't focus on competitive play.
It's a mix of RPG also since you have a limited amount of humans, and if they die they stay dead. The game is also quite detail as you need these humans to research the technology, drive the vehicles, carry the resources and so forth.

The concept is stupid, but very entertaining. It's russia vs america in the past, I love exploring the world as it feels like a new planet.

Multiplayer isn't that good, but its fun to mess around with the units, and the randomized humans is pretty fun. Single player is story based and quite engaging compared to "build xx units, kill enemies".

It obviously has flaws, but its a very different rts game. And yes, one of the woman's voice does say "I give you a nice erection" when building something, don't ask...

Some of my favorite RPG's are from the 90's but saying it was the golden age, that no games will be better and having a hard on for low budget and poorly made indie shit just reeks of hipster and fanboy judgments clouded by nostalgia goggles.

>>1817780

Pretty much every RPG back then had subpar stories.
AN ANCIENT EVIL HAS AWOKEN
SAVE THE PRINCESS
GET THE TREASURE
etc
didn't stop them from being fun as hell, and I agree with Oasis having better gameplay, graphics and music compared to LttP
When those who knew how to us it got ahold of the FM synth on the genesis the soundtracks were amazing.
oh yeah BLAST PROCESSING
