Can we get a modest collections thread going again? I quite like the concept, but I've never contributed before now.

So, if you collect more selectively or are just starting to grow your collection, let's see 'em.

As the original "modest collection" thread creator (as far as I know anyway), I approve of this thread.

I always feel like the collection threads eventually turn into dick waving competitions between the dudes with the rooms/walls full of carts and systems. It's like, we get it man. You either have a lot of expendable income or you're incredibly irresponsible, and we're a little jealous. But we all know you aren't playing all those games.

I don't really want to start a new thread, but how does /vr/ deal with shit like HD remakes and such?

I know its mostly not retro, but I have Devil May Cry 1-3 on PS2, but I also have Devil May Cry HD Edition which contains the trilogy, on one disc. I'm considering letting some of the PS2 games go because of these versions, Ico and Shadow of the colossus are another one. Of course since games like Megaman and Megaman X were on different platforms I'll probably keep those carts as well as my Megaman X and Megaman Collections, but it seems pointless to have anything PS2 and up as a non-HD version.

What are your thoughts on it? Should I just inflate my shelves with duplicate games? Or should I take the HD version and sell the rest to try and make some money for more games

Good games to start off with.
I heard that the replacement connectors that everyone seems to be buying these days aren't really the best choice. They aren't close to the quality of the original connectors and end up going bad much quicker than the originals did in the first place. So when it came time to do something about mine, I just repaired the original. I cleaned it up real good, and used a small flat screwdriver to carefully bend up each pin that got smashed down over the years. This pretty much restores it to it's original state, and should last you longer than any replacement would.

I've always been an compulsive (hoarder) collector who just blindly buys everything I can for every platform I own. Frequently playing a game once to make sure it functions, then never touching it again. Though there was always that core collection of games that I beat many, many times.

Recently, I needed some cash and parted ways with my entire collection and now that I've been able to restart it, I'm being more selective. Basically intending to rebuild that core collection of games I actually play and passing on everything else.

I've decided I'm only getting 3 consoles and only 50 or fewer specific games for each. Though one of those consoles is the PS2, so I'm getting 50 PS1 and 50 PS2 games. Kind of a workaround, but considering I used to have 89 PS2 games and 145 PS1 games, I still feel like I'm winning the battle as it were.

Currently, I have 8 PS1 games and nothing else. Not even a console to play them on yet. But money is still tight, so I get what I can. Usually unwanted or dirt cheap games. But I've been able to focus on that core collection so far.

As of now, I have:

>Crash Team Racing
>Crash Bandicoot Warped
>Twisted Metal 2
>R4
>Castlevania: SOTN
>Brave Fencer Musashi
>Soul Blade
>Tony Hawk's Pro Skater

All of witch are on my core PS1 list. So I'm DEFINATELY doing better than my "if it's cheap, I'll buy it weather it's good or not" days.

>> No.1844240

>>1843116
Haha, that's awesome, we probably would get along great. I've got the Disney racing game because occasionally my nephew wants to play my "old games" and I just let him play that so he doesn't mess with any of my other stuff. It's not that bad actually, it's no CTR, which I'm going to get eventually, but it entertains him enough not to completely obliterate my games.

>> No.1845014

>>1844089
I used to have the same problem, when I first started getting into collecting I was compelled to fill up my collection with a lot of fluff. I decided early on, though, to educate myself about what games are good and/or rare/valuable, so while my collection definitely isn't modest it's all quality.

Those are some quality PS1 games you're starting with.
