wow this is major bullshit

>> No.1804124

It's hilarious how much bullshit magazines spouted back in the day (well, they still do in regards to reviews). Going back to read my old magazines, it's obvious when they didn't do their research or actually played the game, or were being blatantly paid off.

And it hasn't changed.

Game "journalism" is a joke. They're a wing of game companies PR departments.

What am I looking at that's bullshit? I've never played Primal Rage PSX.

I have an old magazine from 1998 that talks about Hey You Pikachu, "based on the Pocket Monster craze that is sweeping japan and should be arriving here soon" and that it's about "a green dolphin called FinFin that talks to you via the microphone"

Which part is the BS? The part about making the arcade graphics look tame? Because I can believe it looking better than the Gen/SNES version. Arcade is one hell of a stretch, though, judging other ports on the system.

One of these people played the game for more than ten minutes.

I remember a story someone told here once. I have no way of verifying it, but it rings true. He said that he worked for Reuters, and one of their jobs was to assess potential affiliate sites for journalistic integrity, on a percentage scale, on which anything below 64% was an automatic fail. He said at one point, they assessed several major gaming news outlets, and the highest score any of them received was 18%.

i'm amazed how often i fell for that horseshit

i stopped reading vidya magazines altogether when i was about 17. egm went under around that time, but by then i'd grown sick of obviously paid-off glowing reviews (and, by contrast, obviously "fuck these shitheads for not paying us" bad reviews), pointless scoring systems as a result of said reviews, shit like that. i was a big tips & tricks fan even after they became obsolete because of gamefaqs, but mostly because they were always well-researched, and consistently good-natured in a time when all games magazines were starting to become pointlessly edgy.

I remember vividly how a spanish magazine gave Bubsy for Sega Genesis a 10, and a 4 page spread article. I went out and bought it pretty much right after I had read it.

Fuck Spain.
