So whenever I see the Sega CD brought up I always see the following events occur

>anon: "wow it was garbage good job sega fukin fag retards nobody wants to play shitty FMV games this is why sega failed"
>different anon: "ur a fuckin fag and don't know shit about /vr/ shut the fuck up go back to >>>/v/"

Well, this is a serious question. What games other than the FMV games are on there? I know Sonic CD (which is my favorite Sonic game) but what other good non-FMV titles are on there? Anything ya got, let me hear about it I really want to learn about it but anytime it's mentioned all I see is FMV bashing.

Also I am apart of the group of people that when they see a model 1 CD/Mega Drive combo their dick instantly gets rock hard. Seriously the GOAT of console looks.

Snatcher
Rise of the Dragon
Heart of the Alien: Out of This World Part 2
Final Fight CD (not a perfect port, but it has 2P mode and all six stages)
Shining Force CD
Dark Wizard
Popful Mail
Lunar 1 & 2 (pretty much anything with the Working Designs logo)

Lunar 2
Keio Flying Squadron
Popful Mail (inb4 the Sega CD version is shit)
Silpheed (not sure if you consider this an "FMV game" since it used pre-rendered video for its stage backgrounds, which was fucking AWESOME)
Ecco (granted, it's just a port with new content, but it improves on an already great game)

Pretty cool lists. I'll definitely have to check some out. I don't have a Sega CD so I'll have to resort to emulating for the time being. Is Sega CD emulation decent? I emulated Sonic CD and it seemed fine.

Also, why are model 1 Sega CDs so expensive still? Are they "uncommon" or rare or what

I have a soft spot for a decent portion of the FMV games and the Sega CD.

sure the Sega CD had bad games but it was a new form of media in the gaming industry that and turbo CD. but it gave what the original genesis was lacking, RPGs like Lunar,Shining Force CD, Popful Mail, and Dark Wizard. they could of done better like the PC Engine CD did in Japan but sega gave the devs kits too late and people only made fmvs (essentially). i feel like it was a good attempt and not so much of a failure as many think. now my question is this, if the SNES CD even came out what would be some titles other than the Secret or Legend of Mana. how much would history have changed?

Boy once Sega started doing UIs (er, well preliminary screens I guess you could say in this case?) for their consoles they did it so much better than everyone else. Recently got a Saturn and I'm in love with the UI and just the sounds it makes and everything. Dreamcast is extremely unique as well, feels like the menu of a heaven or something.

That's exactly why I wanted to learn more about it. It has so much potential and it seemed like it could've been a really great peripheral if Sega could've pulled it off a little better.

Also, weren't there games that utilized the CD as well as the 32x?

lol yeah like I said, that's basically all I could find about the CD whenever I tried researching it. Mega Drive has some god tier games and with the power of the CD I just don't understand how the good games on it aren't as talked about as the FMV shit. I guess people are just trying to find ways to put Sega down just because they failed. Doesn't mean they still didn't put out some good games in their time.

>Well, this is a serious question. What games other than the FMV games are on there?

- 16-bit ports with CD Audio and extra levels
- first or third person games with scaling (racing or shooting or obstacle dodging style - think Afterburner or Space Harrier).

The scaling games all had low framerate due to how the Megadrive couldn't be extended to take enhanced video input.

Best game on the machine was Keio Flying Squadron imo.

>> No.1797787

>Also, why are model 1 Sega CDs so expensive still? Are they "uncommon" or rare or what

They are super fucking old, unreliable, and were made back when nobody gave a shit about the machine, so not many of them are around anymore.

Saturn CD Player was god tier. It only needed a better visulation plugin. The "hide controls" feature only acted as a screensaver.

Dreamcast CD screen was a gigantic step back, feature wise.

It isn't. It runs at like 30fps at BEST, and drops to 10-20 if there are 1-2 other vehicles on the screen.

I don't mind games not running at 60fps, but I consider it a joke if the game slows down to a crawl if there are more than 1-2 things moving at the same time.

Fun fact: It was possible to print out the lyrics of the songs if you used the Sega Modem as well. You'd plug it in along with the Karaoke unit, and it would fax the lyrics of a song to a fax machine.

One of the worst thing ever was that planned Castlevania title for the 32X getting cancelled.
It sounded like it very much had the potential to be the best Classicvania, especially with Konami hot on the heels of Castlevania for the Sharp X68000, Rondo of Blood, and Bloodlines (the 3 best games in the series, imo), when they clearly knew what they were doing.

don't get it if you want a cheaper version that doesn't censor most of the content and have crappy CGI scenes replaced instead avoid both the saturn and PS1. Get the PC Engine version which is nearly identical to the Sega CD one.
