What does /vr/ think of the original Playstation controller?

The ORIGINAL controller.

>> No.1795686

It's fine.. but after adding those analogs.. how can you even look back.

>> No.1795692

The only way to play Crash Bandicoot 1

Simple and comfy. One of the best d pads ever produced.

>> No.1795728

I agree. Played with it for a while on PC before I got a used Dualshock2...

What's your opinion on the vibration feature? I think it's a pretty useless gimmick...

>> No.1795753

Complete total shit. That d-pad is totally retarded. Full cross or bust. It's also pretty much as ergonomic as a NES controller.

>> No.1795764

It's exactly as ergonomic as a more ergonomic SNES controller because that's what it is.

Not it's not. The SNES controller is far from being perfect ergonomy wise but it's still way better than this thing.

>> No.1795786

>>1795771
With the exception of the slightly different d-pad, the second set of shoulder buttons and the ergonomic gandles it's exactly the same as a SNES controller because that's what it started out as.

I still have my original PS controller. It no longer works and there's something rattling around inside of it. But I can't bring myself to throw it out.

If you need a special controller just for your game it's probably a sign you've mapped the controls badly.

The controller doesn't register it though.

To get the rumble in there they had to hollow out the controller interiors making them a lot more brittle and less hefty. Not worth it IMO

This P.much. It worked great, but hard to go back.

>> No.1796052

I always thought it felt like a flimsy piece of shit. Terribly unergonomic, garbage D-pad, asshole button symbols instead of something easy to memorize and write.

>> No.1796061

Feels really light and floaty but I guess I just have gotten attuned to having rumble motors in controllers.

The missing twin sticks also throw me but it's not terribly distracting.

Otherwise it's alright. Ain't bad for Tekken.

>> No.1796123

Probably tied for my favorite digital input controller, along with the 2nd gen Saturn pad. Comfy and light, just the right amount of buttons.

It worked great when it was new but once the analog came out it was quickly obsolete.

Too small and way too light. The Saturn controller was way better. The Dual Analog Controller fixed all of its problems, but it was unfortunately replaced with the tiny and gimmicky Dual Shock.

>> No.1797636

>>1796165
It seemed nice when it was new because there wasn't really an alternative, and there were so many great things coming out for the Playstation back then. Never went back once the Dual Analog came out, though.
Until now, that is. My Playstation is now relegated to CD player position (early models have amazing DAC's, on pat with thousand dollar players), and it just seems to make more sense to use the simpler controller for that.

>> No.1797648

Not bad in terms of functionality, but way too light.

My dad sold ultra high end audio for 20+ years, and he never ever saw an original playstation being used for music. He tried one out once with the fancy equipment he had in his demo room, and the quality was super sub-par.

>> No.1798513

What's the big deal? They just ripped off the snes controller..

>> No.1798528

They're comfortable to hold due to the added ledges, and the incorporation of L2 and R2 was a good addition to the SNES formula.

However, I never liked the PS d-pad, and I don't like the rubber buttons Start and Select, SNES start and select were also made of rubber, but they felt better when pressed. Anyway I prefer normal plastic buttons like the Genesis one.

It's not a bad controller, but not great either.

I absolutely adore that Analog-less ps1 controller. It seems comfortable for just about any 2D game. But how can you hate the analogs of the future, you can't expect to control a 3D character and a camera without them right?

DPad shape is good, material is hard and terrible and makes it unenjoyable to use. It's not dreamcast bad but it's still pretty bad. Face buttons are a tad stiff. Otherwise it'd be okay.
Lack of analog sticks limits it's usefulness for emulation and various other games. But without that it's usable.
