I want to play a 16-Bit JRPG but I don't know what to play. Suggest one and tells us why it's good.

pic related, I love this game a bunch

Final Fantasy V is just ridiculously good.

Maybe you should follow your own advice and tell us what the fucking game is you dweeb.

>> No.1795253

Depends on what you want.

If you like developing your characters skills and shit like that, classics like Chrono Trigger and FFIV are absolutely devoid of it yet are still great in other ways. Then you got FFV which has a mediocre story but gives you a metric fuck ton of skills and combos to play with.

I personally like Dark Law: Meaning of Death. It's a very late-era SFC RPG where you create three customizable party members and run through 10+ interesting scenarios. The combat system is like a tactical RPG and there's a focus on solving spooky shit than grindan and mindless killing, even though there's plenty of that too. Generic encounters can easily wipe your party, but the real difficulty can be just figuring out where to go.

How about a 32-bit JRPG instead? Tales of Eternia is pretty good. Beautiful environments, lots of secrets, fun action based combat (though it's not as great until you get more skills), game has a nice sense of humor and the characters are pretty cool too. It is very anime but then again there are few JRPGs that aren't.

Star Boku no Picocean.

There's a sort of holy trinity; from best to less best: Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VI, and Earthbound. Super Mario RPG is a good also-ran.

Instead of acting all cryptic and cool, I'll behave like a normal person and tell you that's Star Ocean for the SFC.

Hell yes. I love that game. The combat is like a strategy RPG and the puzzle solving is like an adventure game. It's not for anyone though, it's kind of hard to get into.

Does anyone know how exactly you get to fight Daruk Golem or is it still a mystery?

What do you think of the first SMT? I haven't gotten very far in it, but do you think it'd be worth it to skip to the second one?

the first one is alright, albeit somewhat easy.
It does get too cryptic (fucking four door gem) at times though, and the encounter rate without Estoma is vomit inducing.

>> No.1796136

>>1796127
I heard the PSX/GBA/iOS version of the game is much better in terms of the encounter rate.

Sadly, I can't read moon and don't own an iOS device.

>> No.1797649

Lunar on PS1 is nice, maybe I'm biased but I don't see any issue to the game that ruins it unlike most JRPGs.

Also give the SaGa series a try, it's not perfect and it looks incomplete but it's the closest you'll get to a real RPG from Japan.

Pier solar works fine on my Wii's Genesis emulator.

I would recommend emulating Lufia II for the SNES. What I like about it is that unlike most RPGs, dungeons are puzzle-focused (like Zelda games), so they are not just a slog of random battle after random battle.

On that note, the other huge thing about Lufia II is NO RANDOM BATTLES. That alone puts it leagues above most other RPGs.
