Nah mate, the story is a lot deeper and more interesting than Trigger's. Square basically swapped the good mechanics of Trigger for improving the atmosphere, music and plot. Now if only there were a third game that had Trigger's fast-paced combat with Cross' writing, depth, and style.

This game is full of very sad and emotional moments, and in my opinion some of them are more powerful then any scene in any of the other FFs, but this one really stood out because I wasn't expecting it to be so intense.

Rented it first. Only saw the cover art as the tiny scrunched up label on the cartridge. Was pretty hard to make out who they were since they looked realistic there and cartoony in-game. As for playing as Chaz first, by then I'd totally forgotten and hadn't put much thought into it. Whenever I talked to someone, Alys was the one who spoke up and she was the one leading the party in the field and dungeons. Also, I was 6 or something. I'm not going to say I was the quickest kid on the uptake.
