Alright /vr/, I found an old NES controller, SNES controller, and Genesis controller in my attic, so I bought adapters to hook them up to my computer and they actually work. So now I'm planning to play through all the generations since I missed most of them. So my question is, what are some good old games? Basically anything before 3D. I want to play everything.

Ristar is a platformer made by Sonic Team in 1995. The best game ever IMO.

Well that helps, thanks man. I was kinda looking for suggestions on the good shit that isn't mainstream though. I shouldn't have said "everything" when I didn't mean it. The only genre I don't like is puzzle.

Thanks, I think I heard about that. It's the one that never came to America right?

You know, a lot of kids come in here and straight unashamedly say they want to play some retro games because it's in right now and we still help them but we also have to school them. Some kids come in with some kind of "I watched my mom play SMB3 when I was a baby" crap that a lot of oldfags really accept.

On the other hand, you OP are a kid after my own heart (if you are a kid). You found the actual CONTROLLERS and held them and were like "Man I need to play some games that were made to play on these controllers" and I think that's great. I love controllers.

I'm going to assume they're the original made by Nintendo or Sega, most common US controllers for all three - rectangular NES controller and three button Genesis controller (there's no later revision of the SNES controller).

So, before I recommend games tell me which of the three controllers feels the best to you. Tell me which buttons you imagine doing what.

Pic, unfortunately, probably unrelated

Gotta play Dragon Quest in the area of RPGs. The 1 & 2 Reprise versions for the Super Famicom are your best bet for the early ones. They've all been translated.

Pulseman didn't get a retail release in the West, but it did get onto the SEGA Channel. Both games are worth your time.

I would say that the SNES controller is the one that I like the most since it seems like it has the best button layout. But the NES one is also pretty appealing just because of how simple it is. The Genesis one seems the weakest, but I still think it's ok but that's probably just the nostalgia kicking in since that was my first console I got when I was three.

Sounds like you should start with Super Mario World.

What kind of games do you like? Like is there a genre you like more than anything? Or something you don't like? Are you openminded? Like, just knowing what your preferences and quirks are can help.

Sounds good, I'll check both of them out.

I like everything but puzzle games really, but platformers are probably the best older games imo. But my favorite game of all time is Chrono Trigger, so rpgs are nice too. I'm pretty open minded about it.

>>1789573
I,ve only played the first one so I'll get that one too.

Well come good SNES platformers that migth have gone under your radar are Umihara Kawase, Blackthorne, and GS Mikami: Joreishi Wa Nice Body.

Though, some personal favorites of mine on the system are Clock Tower, E.V.O. Search for Eden, Famicom Detective Club Part II: The Girl in Back, Terranigma, Arcana, Suzuka 8 Hours, and Harvest Moon.

Ok, I just looked those up and they look pretty good. Thanks to everybody in this thread. I had no idea what to start with before this thread, but now I have a pretty good idea where to start.
