The reason people would be shooting nonstop is because they need to get a lot of bullets out, possibly regardless of accuracy.

Shotguns that need to be clicked per shot? Awful.
Shotguns that need to be clicked per pump too? Fuck that, editing.

Click to shoot is okay because you can hold to charge.

Click to combo is okay if you have more than one combo and timing matters otherwise it's not particularly necessary.

The sword should hurt more too if it's no longer hold to swing.

It doesn't need a lot of combos, but the idea is that you need more payoff for every time you click so that way you can click less often.

Because if the combos felt weak or unnecessary there isn't going to be a reason to hold the button.

A good example is X-Weapons.

X-Weapons has shitty pistols, but they're all click to shoot.
So it doesn't feel good to click that shit.

What the fuck is GMOTA? Why does pressing reload with the sword cause to power up, but sometimes it just powers down as soon as I try to attack with it? How come sometimes when I press the subweapon button I get a shitty version of the subweapon, and other times I get a really high powered version out of nowhere?

Beat shit up with your sword to get more blue mana (the light blue bar). Shoot shit with the arm cannon for red mana. Rage (dark blue bar) builds whenever you're just holding the sword, and also when some subweapons strike a target. Reload engages powered mode, which makes both weapons much more powerful but consumes red/blue mana. Using subweapons in powered mode will result in a Castlevania-style item crash, but if you don't have enough mana you'll just throw the normal projectile.

I'm planning on two more characters in the future, Kuros will be up next, ripped straight from Wizards and Warriors with a bit of battletoads mixed in, he's going to wield the only hitscan weapon in the mod along with a fucking mighty boot so mighty even Duke would be envious

The dying Doom generals on /vg/ migrated to /vr/ shortly after its inception and moot's been fine with them ever since, so Doom has been on this board since day one and will likely stay. I like to think that these and /vr/ gauntlet threads have played a part in making /vr/ survive its trial as well.

As for /doom/'s popularity, it's a mix of reasons

I Downloaded the texture pack from freelanzer and upon double clicking the .pk3 file it launches GZDoom.

So I don't know if this is a bug with Doom or not but I was just playing Brutal Doom and now I can't move after a level change. Was on E1M2, at the very end with the Imp in the pit, I hit him with the Mighty Boot as I hit the level switch. Upon entering E1M3 all of my movement controls are disabled. Noclip does nothing. I can do everything (jump/crouch/shoot) other than move.

Yeah, but I've read that it takes advantage of a lot of vanilla rendering bugs for its visuals, as well as breakable walls that don't always work in modern ports, and I wouldn't necessarily know what to look for, especially if that stuff doesn't show up until later in the game. Is this the fucking old west? Any modern hand-ejector revolver would be capable of being fired in double-action, being faster and a fair bit more accurate, shit, that was becoming common by the early 1900's.

If you're gonna have a revolver, have holding the trigger down firing the gun rapidly in double-action, and if you let go of the trigger after firing, the player cocks the hammer of the gun, allowing an instant shot that's more accurate.

Only single-action revolvers can be fanned anyway.

I don't think most people HATE it. I didn't care for it overall; I think it suffered from being a showcase of overdetailing and ZDoom effects. The maps dragged on with new areas added and I thought there was barely any feel left of the original maps. All mods, at some extent, change monster sprites only and keep the normal behavior; the only one mod which main focus is to change sprites and nothing else so far is Demonicron. Project MSX changes at some extent the HellKnight turning it into a satyr with -fast fireballs, I think. Modders can save quite a fw bytes by just changing sprites and using small DECORATE lines and inheritance.

You don't actually need the second pair of frame sets that the Pinky has for the walking animations.

Doesn't works well for a resources list. Let's say that you want to rip the Cyberdemon's taunt animation where he leans forward and screams at the player. This set of sprites were made exclusively by Neumann, so, all credits goes to him. So let's say you want to rip the headshot death animation from the zombieman. David G. did the sprite used as base, but I edited the sprite to make the zombie's head explode, so it's a sprite made by both of us, then, both of us must be credited.

It works with soundfonts, yes. Timidity has troubles with extremely high and low pitch shifting, too, so yeah.

Run with Doom 2 through ZDoom. So far only a couple sounds have been changed. The ones I remember off the top of my head are: the Cyberdemon, the zombiemen's death sounds, some chaingunner sounds, the rocket launcher, the pistol, shotgun, chainsaw, the sound when you pick up a weapon, and the sound played in the intermission screen when "NOW ENTERING" with the level title under it appears.

a city type area, with an ruined zigguraut in the center, switches around the map rebuild parts of it, each time causing long range type monsters (reavnants/ mancubi) to spawn along the battlements of the tower firing at the player from across the map., maybe with a few cacos emitting from the tower. eventually the player rebuilds enough of the tower to reach the top, where there is the finale/exit

In the future, I would definitely like one consistent sword sprite. Same with guns and hands, since having a multitude of different sprites looks crazy.

I generally like to solidify the gameplay first before working on graphics, though, so as to minimize the amount of work lost.

To be honest, WoC and Hexercise are very top tier HeXen mods that are hard to surprass and Serpent Resurrection is by seriously superior to everything related to Hexen, so it's obvious that the HeXen modding scene is very niche

ZM66 is an unreliable piece of shit. Only use it if you don't have the shotguns or you're trying to conserve ammo.

The shotguns are your best friends. One blast from the shotgun can take out anything up to babuins. The double shotgun is the most reliable way to handle spectres. They both have excellent range and in some cases can be preferable to the rifles for distant targets.

The chaingun is really good at killing everything, but it's extremely unwieldy and makes getting shot suck that much more, because it gets uncontrollable as soon as anything hurts you.

The rocket launcher is your long-distance bro for life. It can be fired very quickly and has very low recoil. Ideal for everything from cacodemons to barons. HEAT rounds should only be used against barons and stronger targets.

The cannon, if you're lucky enough to get it, is really odd. You need to position yourself correctly when firing or you'll hurt yourself. I'm still not entirely sure how it works, because I've only ever gotten it once. Unless you pick the loadout that starts with it, you'll likely never see it.

Plasma gun is a bit unorthodox - you're not supposed to aim directly at enemies with it, but instead at the terrain around them. Like the chaingun, it's extremely hard to use when under fire, but due to how it's used it makes for an excellent corner-checker. Just don't use it in close range, because unlike rockets, the plasma rifle will gladly blow you to bits.

The Liberator is the best goddamn gun ever made and learning to control its recoil should be your #1 priority because it will destroy anything short of a cyberdemon within one or two mags. Just don't forget to pick up the brass afterwards.

Don't abuse the BFG's ability to produce cell ammo. You know those little green particles that appear whenever you unload a cell? They'll fly around the map, resurrecting random enemies and sometimes spawning totally new ones.
