Keep in mind a difference between localization (Think something like a Wolsey or Moyse one) and a translation (What most rom hacks are).

I know dynamic design's translator does more of a localization than a straight translation. I think Aeon Genesis translations too. Those guys are great.

That's an arbitrary distinction made up by whiny internet fanboys who know fuck all about translations. All translations are localizations. The only difference is whether or not the translator tries to pander to autists by claiming that his poor work is the result of intentional literalism rather than inexperience.

There is a distinction. You can't honestly tell me 4kids' translations are not localizations or that Working Designs' are not localizations.

But that's the point. The word 'translation' in this context generally doesn't refer to a literal translation of the text (which 99.9% of the time will be utter crap) but to a localisation which actually makes sense. It works as a synonym.

I don't think the anon is trying to argue for literal translations vs. localizations, but the faithful kind compared to those that take great liberty with the source material to make it appealing to a region
