After countless hours of trial&error and figuring out the system, I have finally came around with Shadow Warrior's Room Over Room system.
It's very limited, but once you know the limits, once you know what you can do or not and how you should do, you can start thinking with the limits and doing some cool stuff.

Also Shadow Warrior had the reputation of having a more complicated system for its effects and tagging than Duke3D, however I don't think it's really that much more complicated, it's just different. I'm actually starting to think that its system is even superior to DN3D, for instance if you make a swing door, most of the things you can control (angle, speed, autoclosing delay) are set using only one effect contrary to DN3D in which you have to use a different unique sprite for speed, and yet a different unique sprite for autoclosing delay. It's really more convenient.

I get the impression you're being facetious, but I honestly don't see why this would be a problem. Doom was always a violent, bloody game that had you wading through a sea of corpses, and Quake 1-3 had all manner of explosive gore. I like eviscerating hellspawn.

And hell, I'd rather they draw influence from Brutal Doom than from any of Bethesda's other games. Or even Id's last two games.

I've got a new map in the works. It's a Dead Simple riff but instead of the usual bullshit, I'm trying to make it something of a real level.

The player starts in a central hub with a couple Mancubii which will lead the player to go "Ugh fine another Dead Simple ripoff," only to find that once these Mancubus are dead, nothing happens. They have to go around to various sub-rooms, killing Mancubii and Arachnotrons. Once these are all dead, a central platform in the hub with a Mastermind will rise up, and the exit is in one of the sub-rooms, basically requiring the player to go back and at least run past the Mastermind.

II'm working on a SW map. I've been thinking of it for quite a while now, and when I heard that the new 3DRealms is probably going to make an official DN3D/SW mapping contest , that made me finally start and get on with my ideas.
I get a bit of progress on it every day, however it takes me fucking ages to do anything because I'm still learning all the effects as I make them, and because since I don't know the texture set of the game, it takes me forever to build every single wall.

it also doesn't help that SW has no proper modern editor like Doom or even DN3D has, and I have to keep switching between 2 editors.

But yeah, hopefully I will get this done at some point in a near future. Then I should probably finish my Doom map, but I would also like to try to learn and make a Blood map.

Holy shit this map is fucked.

It was okay at first through the first tower. Lots of neat little secrets and whatnot.

Then the second tower had one way walls with chaingunners behind them and a hallway. I realized what was happening pretty quickly so I lived through that.

Then the third tower has a big wall that you need one of the keys to get through. Thankfully I had it and I killed the zombie gunners before I opened the wall so I didn't lose any extra HP.

I see a BFG and an invisibility orb, so I go towards them...and get teleported into a fast crusher which was apparently in the same room and I die.

Absolutely amateur map design.

I don't mind the concept of melee being a focus in some way, but if it's just to get an animation like that every time then I can't say I'm interested in it.

Like if I play Brutal Doom I stick with Smash mode because fatalities are kinda eh.
But for melee fun I play TSP and GMOTA or even just regular Doom with a different sound for punching things. Gloved sprites too.

I'm just not a fan of QTEs or cutscene kills.

There's nothing wrong with wanting melee combat to having a few combos in there.

If Doom 4's melee combat turned out to be like.. I don't know, Breakdown but good that would be nice.
Even just a four hit combo would be okay.

Something tells me it will be about just running into a demon with a shotgun, flinching them and then gorey kill every time though.

Okay guys, so we have:
apparently decent demon variety (of course, this is all according to PC gamer)
weapon variety (we've got the old super shotgun back)
lots of emphasis on melee
melee "kill moves"
shooting enemies can stun them and let you do a kill move
doing kill moves gets you an HP drop off at least some enemies
players can die and have a kill move done on them by the enemy

Forgive me if I can't help but feel this has all the worst parts of Brutal Doom mixed with several modern day QTE/kill moves.

I guess kill moves are okay if they don't pop up really quickly into any given engagement. I mean, most enemies in Final Doom/Doom II have to take a good set of punches.

Though given how kill moves tend to work out, they usually appear annoyingly often during normal gameplay.

I am sure Brutal Doom also had some influence on it since people who don't know much about Doom mods know what Brutal Doom is.

Update 668: And then I lost connection for the entire demo. Took notes, though. Here you go:

Doom created to be fast, brutal. Not waiting around for health to recharge. Showed quick animatics of enemies getting gibbed. Looks OK.

There will be fast-paced competitive multiplayer. Will run on a new evolution of their tech, Id Tech 6.

Game will be on PC and next-gen consoles.

Demo time. Marine puts on helmet. Walks through corridors I’m big facility. Tons of lava below. Finds a trail of blood. Graphics look nice, but nothing insane. Level design seems very linear.

Demons appear. Super quick movement. Shooting followed by tearing into demons and ripping out organs, all in one quick movement. Literally tearing them in half sometimes. Almost God of War esque in that respect. Hyper violent.

Need a hand to use a key scanner. Go rip the arm off a corpse and push it against the scanner. This is ridiculous.

Go upstairs. Surrounded by demons. Shotgun them, stun, and move in for the finish. Crushing heads, chunks flying everywhere.

Lots of walkways and rails. Demon gets shot and falls in half. Demons are pretty basic. Humanoid. Long-range spell attacks and up close clawing.

Finds beam assault rifle. Mowing everything down with it. Lots of explosions now. Leaping on top of crates and rails and slamming down on enemies.

Encounter hologram of someone saying they’ve “lost containment.” That’s an understatement.

HR1 is pretty decent. A bit overrated, but it definitely has historic significance for creating the new standard for "hard" maps. ROTT's music actually fits pretty well.

HR2 I felt was a bit of a mixed bag, because it often had maps that were way too closed quarters to accommodate the amount of enemies that were stuffed in. A lot of "50 people in a phone booth" vibe. Besides the remakes, most of the maps generally felt nothing like the typical HR map. The music also made it seem like it took itself too seriously.

Kama Sutra felt more HR to me, than HR2 did, honestly.

I am using gzdoom, but what I usually do is to drag the wad (or multiple wads) in the file browser to the gzdoom.exe and select the doom wad.
It seems some wads need doom2.wad other are built for doom 1. So change that if your map or mod doesnt work.
