Alright guys, I've got an idea for a thread.
Find a terribly designed platformer, and beat it. It's pretty simple.
Right now I'm working on wolfchild, which isn't THAT bad of a game, and then I'm going to either Rocky Rodent, Addam's Family, or Ren & Stimpy veediots.

you forgot to add any of the alfred chicken games
also i played a bit of wolfchild, it's really not that bad, but the soundtrack is definitely better than the game.

it's terribly designed, but it's fun to play.
I think I'll make a list of platformers that are hard because of design flaws.
things like leaps of faith, undodgeable attacks, etc. will factor into this.

Hey hey, what's wrong with Addams Family?

That said, Shadow of the Beast and its sequel are both pretty terrible games. The Sega CD version of Beast 2 in particular, which becomes unwinnable if you miss a single coin, fail to save some knobend who gets captured in a short frame of time, break through a door at a point, or fail to grab an item from a snail during screen transition.

addam's family has the same feel as alfred chicken or B.O.B.

but it's addam's family so I love it

I see a problem in this assessment

If you're talking about the SNES Addams Family, that game is wonderful and well thought-out.

As for games that are just plain bad, I would suggest Harley's Humongous Adventure

The 16 bit MegaDrive and SNES versions of that are great platformers, it's the 8 bit ports that suck ass. So I presume it's those you were referring to?

that may be it. I'm not trying to call these games inherently *bad*, but ones that are difficult due to design flaws.
Wolfchild isn't necessarily bad, but there are tons of leaps of faith and slowdowns from near-unavoidable obstacles.

I loved the ancient temple level, I've never seen one with bugs in lieu of spookybones.

this is the one I'm thinking about. I didn't play past the first level, so my opinion isn't well-educated. I hope nobody's pissed off, I'm certainly willing to give it more playtime.

Bronkie The Bronchiasaurus, for the SNES. Make sure to watch your asthma levels, kid.

>Wolfchild MSystem
>that awesome press start menu music
>no music in the game at all
I was disappoint as a kid
