What's everyone's favorite Sailor Moon vidya?

I remember really liking Sailor Moon: Another Story, but I'm afraid if I download it now it won't be as good as I remember it being.

I only played 2 SM games when I was a kid, the Megadrive beat 'em up one, played it a lot co-op, and the SuperS fighting game for Super Famicom.
I tried Another Story on emulator ages ago, seemed good, should give it a proper playthrough someday.

Depends how well you like it, but I can give you a little more of a recent perspective on it since I replayed it myself recently.

The story is basically just a filler arc, but as far as those types of things go, it's a solid filler arc with some fun villains and very good designs. I could totally see this being turned into an OVA a la Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans.

You can accidentally level up far too quickly with your characters if you aren't careful and get too powerful for a sailor's fist area because a few levels in, level ups skyrocket since that level when the designers expected every sailor to already be done with their area by that time. You can bypass this with either careful planning or just not giving a fuck, and maybe ease off on grinding and rush through things for a bit until it isn't a problem.

All the collectible hidden puzzle pieces are found far too early in the game if you actually look.

The characters can feel a little homogenized mechanically even from the get go, but it doesn't feel as bad as, say, late game Final Fantasy VI since everyone generally does have their own special tricks. And the tag team moves give everyone niches anyway.

The game looks great, one of the best looking RPGS on the system, the only gripe I have about it is that while the Sailor Senshi are all well animated, the enemies are just stills like Final Fantasy.

I personally thing it's a decent JRPG by itself , even if it does have its flaws, but add in being a licensed game and that handles the license incredibly well, that just adds so much to the experience for a Sailor Moon fan. Hell, it actually was my first exposure to Sailor Moon and got me into the manga and anime five years ago. So, not only can it appeal to just normal JRPG players too, it can even covert them into Sailor Moon fans.

Honestly, if you want to try it again, try it. Though, nostalgia how it is, I'd try to clear my head of old expectations of it the best I can.

Oh man, I need to pick Another Story up again.

Another Story because it was the only RPG I know where there was a cheat code to let you start the game with the characters leveled the fuck up, so if you wanted to play it for the plot with less grind, it is the game for you

The sega saturn one that's a scrolling beat'em up and not a fighter, made by the same guys who made denjin makai.

A friend of mine back in the day got to import a japanese Sailor Moon cartridge (a beat them up game), to play on her PAL SNES. It had black and white screen but the game worked. Not working would've been worse. Much fun was had, it's a decent beat them up.

I was never a big Sailor Moon fan, but I remember having fun with the Arcade game.
They went a little over-the-top with the animated parts, though.

It looks nice, but what bothers me personally is that the characters are far less expressive than in the manga and original anime.

>> No.1751219

>>1750589
yeah but the original anime and manga are still just as expressive as they were. you can go back and enjoy all the silly faces and animation variety. the new show wants to stay on model consistently.

animation and anime buffs are always arguing about this shit. when animation style changes to something more simple its QUALITY. when the animators stay on model the whole time it's all MUH EXPRESSION

I like the new sailor moon. it hits all the same beats as the original anime did. if they drew it in the exact same style it might as well have been dragon ball kai or some lazy remastering shit.

>it won't be as good as I remember it being

It was pretty shitty OP, retain your good memories and don't play it. I still cannot believe they give you like 10 or whatever characters but for half the game you rotate between the core four and play as them solo. Such a wasted opportunity especially considering the whole team attack moves.

>> No.1751256

it's a great remaster, much better than other stuff [like you said with DBZ kai] but he still has a point, the characters are not as expressive as the old series BUT, it doesn't make the remaster bad nor inferior to the original series

One thing I liked a lot about SMAS was that since Sailor Moon inhabits a relatively small world (mainly Azabu-Juban), locations were much more believably scaled and proportioned, and therefore felt more real. Walk a couple screens out of Fourside and you're in the desert. Walk a couple screens out of Tokyo and you're in a different part of Tokyo.

I guess mine would be the Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon on 3DO. I can't beat the last fucking boss, Super Sailor Moon, and I can't cheat because I'm playing it on an actual 3DO.

Shit

I like Another Story, it's a solid JRPG but if I had to choose a favorite it'd be the Fuwa Fuwa Panic games, they're just so fucking fun.

Crystal is good.
