If anything didn't age well of the original game boy, it would be the screen. The monochrome nature of it did hinder the experience, but most games were designed in a way that used graphics that would could associate with immediately. You see a fire hydrant and your brain immediately colors it in as red. However, the Game Boy's screen was pretty bad with ghosting.

I think that video, fake though it is, was supposed to be measuring their initial reactions and not their opinions on the game mechanics. Plenty of games did have hand holding, checkpoints, and saves, anyways. Link's Awakening isn't that much different from the more modern mobile Zelda games, for example.

I think today's younger generation has a looser grasp on the concept of quality vs quantity. Generally, as long as new games/tech have enough different gadgets to keep kids occupied they will sell huge numbers regardless of quality. It's about having the latest gear.

I hate to say back in the day but back in the day a game wasn't necessarily desirable because it's the latest in a huge franchise; quality was a factor as well and I feel that's been gone for a while now.

So, yeah besides those, I would actually agree that the Game Boy isn't desirable when compared to newer consoles. I wouldn't want one because of the low resolution, unlit, green screen alone. Not to mention that the newer hardware and programming technology used in the DS/PSP/whatever allows game developers more control over level design and story telling within games. Newer games seem more fundamentally enjoyable. Also, I never grew up with a Game Boy, so I think I'm speaking from an unbiased perspective. A game should be able to stand on its own, not because of some historical respect I owe it.

The kids didnt make me cringe, most knew what it was, after all there are like 13 million owners of 3DS in the USA, and Pokemon is still popular, they have to kinda know what it is. There is a cartoon with some creature and a dog that has a character which is a humanoid Game Boy.

I've been more fascinated with advances and experiments in the various technologies rather than the actual games themselves, so new or old it's always neat to figure out how people did things and the lengths people went to just to get one thing working just right.

Even if it was staged, hopefully one of those kids gets an interest in learning about what came before their time. History is a fascinating place and it's great to keep it alive even if it is just to see the next generation shudder in horror at it.

Which ones did you have? Game Boy's library is quite big, and it has a lot of master pieces, but also a lot of shovelware, like the PS1 or the NES.

I tried Wario Land again recently and boy is it hard to get into these days. Sure, it's a perfect fit for the blurry OG Game Boy with its large sprites and slow movement but oh man, it's just TOO slow. Everything takes times and Wario comes to a full stop with almost every action he makes.

i think it's honestly a case of faking for the sake of a decent vid, im only 18 so gameboy and gameboy color was really before my time and gba was my first handheld
i still played some original gameboy games on it and enjoyed them, i also knew about things like typewriters, gramophones, those really old TVs with like a 1 inch screen, this stuff isn't exactly obscure and lots of people my age now about stuff long before their time and can respect them

also there is a kid talking about buttons as if modern consoles don't have any themselves or buttons have somehow become obsolete
