I sold most of those. It allowed me to buy much better games! I'm keeping Albert Odyssey - for now. Until I finally beat it, lol. The loading times between overworld and menu really kill it for me.

Rarest I own:
Albert Odyssey: Legend of Eldean
Strider 2
Elevator Action 2*

*Apparently Elevator Action 2 is "rare" now. What a fucking joke. I bought it for $50 two years ago. Don't fall for ebay bullshit!
Or just get Taito Legends 2 on the PS2 and save hundreds of dollars.

I have a coy of Mega Man Battle & Chase, which was pretty cool except that I could only play it in fucked-up black and white on my modded PSX.

Then it was re-released on the Mega Man X Collection.

So I guess it's Tobal No. 1, which isn't all that rare, I dunno.

I like Tobal No. 1.

-I have a Vectrex system without the controller
-I have a Phillipps 3DO
-Megaman Legends 2
-Megaman 7
-Lufia 1 and 2
-Lunar Silver Star Story and Eternal Blue Complete
-I used to have Shantae on the Gameboy Color- but it mysteriously disappeared from my room.
-Ninja Five-O for Gameboy Color

I can't really collect systems and games anymore since I ran out of space.

Rarity factors into price, but its not the only factor.

Popularity, Rarity (as in, number of copies printed, as well as copies available. More copies available generally equates to lower price, which is why shit like Earthbound gets horded and still claims its 200 asking price on occasion), as well as game quality play factors.

No one really wants to pay 200+ dollars for a game that isn't at least decent, which is why those are strictly collectors only items.

HAHAHA. do people seriously believe this shit? it's barely an uncommon game at best. people just seem to loose their shit over it for some reason even though its a mediocre game at best.

>> No.1738857

>>1738836
Uncommon is a pretty good definition of its production rarity but then it became rare in circulation because no one bought it back in the day. Everyone knew it was only mediocre compared to the other JRPGs that were up against it and it cost $20 more because you HAD to buy the strategy guide with it.

It's an unpleasant example of perception changing over time. For some reason I guess Ness is in Smash Brothers or something? That caused some interest in "Whoa obscure Nintendo JRPG what?" plus scumbag market speculators getting their hands on cases of unsold NOS copies and artificially creating scarcity on top of the thing unfortunately having parallels to modern "big box collectors editions" all adds up to a rage-worthy modern misperception of he game. I'm glad I got rid of mine for $450 even though it peaked at ~$700 before the VC release.

The rarest game I own is probably Bangai-O! for the N64. I'm not sure exactly how rare it is compared to other games in general, and I hear they only made 10,000 copies. That sounds like a small amount for a game released in the '90s, even if it is a Japan-only release.

Also, how "rare" is Castlevania Bloodlines? I know it sort of fell into that Earthbound-like trap of re-sellers buying boxes of unsold copies and selling them at inflated prices, so that kind of cuts into how many copies wind up circulating through the open market.

>> No.1739828

Theres also the whole "I'm the only one who's ever played this copy" which is kinda nice.

My greatest shame is not keeping my FFT Black Label case and manual. I seriously went through 3 copies of that game and my last 2 were greatest hits. I just had a new copy so I saw no point in going and keeping it.

That green label on the shelf haunts me to this day.

I've had good deals like that in the past, but I never took care of my games. Most were slowly ruined throughout the years. A few of games did survive though. I was very delighted that my Mega Man Legends was still miraculously in mint condition. Then one day my cat got inside my room and urinated all over my remaining ps1/ps2 games (which were kept in a storage bin that was momentarily opened). I kinda felt a similar feeling to what I imagine The Dude must have felt when he walked out of a bowling alley only to witness his car engulfed in flames, prompting him to say "Well, they finally did it. They killed my fucking car.".

Time to start over!
