Deus Ex isn't an RPG and Diablo is and always has been a boring click-fest

What is: it doesn't belong on a retro board?

>Diablo is and always has been a boring click-fest

ha I agree it is not even a true RPG just a mindless mob spree killer with butchered RPG elements yet without any essence unlike true role playing games, made to deliver instant gratification and cater only to lowest common denominator just as almost all new RPG games that are just a glorified action games
I liked it when I was kid though

A massive chunk of those are indeed retro, you fucking kneejerker.

That reminds that I friend of mine keeps insist, taunting me even whenever I play something like Powder, or Shiren the Wanderer, Angband, or Dungeon Crawl on the go, that "Diablo is the best rogue-like ever made, and you should playing that instead of this garbage." And I'm very much a non-violent, but I have to hold back the urge to punch him in the face the over and over again every time her says that.

More on topic, there's a Wizardry game in the god tier section and also Torment, and Arx Fatalis in great, [/spoiler[ so it is passable.

Ugh, I just woke up, I'm sorry.

Planescape torment is weak on combat and basically it is a fantasy novel there is not much of a gameplay in it, i dont think it qualifies as a god tier rpg, strong dialogues dont make a good rpg

Some games are too high. Some games are too low.

True, but I was being stupid and selfish and only thinking about my own preferences. When I decide to actually play something with an actual story in it, I like to go all the way and thus I mostly like to play text adventures, point and click adventure games, and Japanese detective games more than anything else because I'm a filthy casual when it comes to story. And thus, or RPGS I'm mosty do the extremes of gameplay oriented like Wizardry and Roguelikes, or something super story focused like Torment or a JRPG. So I momentarily felt the need to see my own preference as standard.

Fuck... I'm scum...

Jagged Alliance 2 isn't really a rpg.

Not /vr/ but I think Fable deserves better than average. It's a bit shallow for an RPG but it's very gratifying and comfy as fuck. Also dat Russel Shaw soundtrack.

For one, it exists.

The original Diablo has a surprising amount of depth when you aren't playing Sorcerer, though.

And in Diablo 2 it's fun to make some builds work.

It ain't really a roguelike, though. The word roguelike got kinda diluted over the years, what with Binding of Isaac fitting the definiton now, supposedly.

Eamon isn't on the list, this is not justice.

System Shock 1 is not an RPG.

deus ex isnt an rpg, fallout 1 and 2 fucking suck

Diablo 2 is enjoyable in the same way cell-phone games like valkyrie crusade is enjoyable. That is to say it is a very game that has addictive elements.

No matter how you look at it d2 is not good. The dungeons are bland and unmemorable: no puzzles, no (dangerous) traps, a total of 1 secret passage in the entire game.

The combat is at its absolute most complicated, doing a shot cycle and occassionally refreshing a buff or summon. Theres no real strategy.

Character building has no depth: enough strength to wear your armor, than dump vit. For skills get x1 of each passive than dump all poinst into the passive of your main skill. Even d3 had more depth since at least the runes changed how the skills played and you got a new gimmick to play with ever level..

Theres no real strategy, just stat optimization, never any points where you need to come up with any plan or method, just mash your shot cycle and guzzle your infinite supply of potions

The game is filled with interface problems like the item tetris.

The level and loot system is addicting and it makes the game good for just zoning out and clicking buttons but that isn't a good game (you could say the same thing about maple story or any other bad mmorpg)

Putting it on the same tier as games that have actually well-designed dungeons and real strategy involved is laughable.

It's sci-fi Ultima Underworld. Of course it's an RPG.
