Why is it that every game shop that sells retro games try to rip you off? I went to a shop today that had about 10 out of the 30 or so games I was looking for between Dreamcast and PS1

I know that I should have turned around when I picked up Elemental Gimmick Gear for the Dreamcast and the owner told me, "Great game 85.99"
>Broken Case
>Hand Drawn picture of "EGG"
>Scratched off 'Used' sticker

Next up, Nightmare Creatures.
"Another good choice, I'll ring you up for these two, the total comes to 196.59"

That means that Nightmare Creatures came to over 100 dollars.
Again, it was in a handrawn busted jewel case with no booklet.

I think you are exaggerating. They are all scams but come on, be realistic.

Not sure if serious...

The local shop here is actually great. They have sales all the time, don't overcharge, and keep stuff back you're looking for if it comes in. They even have a pretty cool arcade in the back too.

Nope I'm serious, I went with a group of friends, one of which was browsing Ebay/Amazon for more appropriate prices.

I'm serious, and this was a haggle free zone.
Although he did tell me if you buy 5 or more games, you get half off of one of the bargain bin games. Which consisted of Sports games for the N64-Xbox

It's in a flea-market, his big sales come from Imports, Toys, Candy, and repairs I guess.

When I was there, he had a few people lined up to get their 360's fixed.

I looked up most of those games that I didn't know already, I own a Gameplay and I know for a fact we charge at least half of most of these (That we actually have)

>> No.1727214

>>1727132
Most places operate off the "it's so old and retro now, I can charge what I want" logic, even applying it to newer systems Gamestop simply no longer stocks for, like the Gamecube. Doesn't help that (where I live anyhow) hipsters are more than content to pay out the ass even for common games on older systems, and most stores charge based off overpriced online prices. That said, there are some good, shortprinted games where a higher price is more deserving, but when it reaches truly obscene levels for even common stuff it's an issue

Still, there's at least one store I know of where I live that charges actually reasonable prices for most of their stuff, and another one that, while they do have asinine prices for more popular games, you can occasionally really do well with some of the less popular, more niche games.

>>1727159
What the flying fuck. Where I live, the most Jade Cocoon goes for is about $40, Tron Bonne for $130 (expensive, but still), Persona for about $60-70, Legend of Mana for $30-40, and BFM for about $35-40, just to compare a few.

That constructs more than whining about resellers, like they are making billions of your useless hobby.
And it's not small, retards complain hipsters are stealing their games

The owner is really cool too. He really know his stuff. Just don't play against him unless you want to go home sad. It freaky how quickly he picks up on stuff and beats you at your favorite game.

why?
because they're not selling games, they're selling nostalgia.
because they have a rent/lease on the shop to pay, as well as staff, and they have to turn a profit somehow
because the amount of business they get is pathetic compared to the average GameStoop
because people like me install and configure emulators on folk's PCs, driving down their already dwindling numbers
because people are willing to pay it

Pick one, op.
