The Legend of Zelda was traditionally a game associated with girls. It was not until A Link to the Past, and truly not until Ocarina of Time that it became associated with 13 year old males.

Of course, many boys did play Zelda, but if you asked them their favorite series it would rarely appear at the top of the list. But ask any girl who played games on the regular in the late 80s or early 90s what is their favorite series, and the answer would almost invariably be The Legend of Zelda.

There actually is a game like that. It is called "Life". The graphics are pretty cool, but a little primitive, with way too much fucking gray and brown, and the tacked on voices are fucking annoying as shit but there is no option to even turn them off. I don't recommend it.

Yeah you got that fucking right, nothing is free in this game. Obtaining the necessary credits to do anything is the most fucking tedious shit ever too. Damn near 99 percent of the levels cost money to unlock for fucks sake. If we could rally enough supporters, we could try and contact the admin to release the sourcecode for some much needed bug fixes. Shit like the sneak mechanic has been broken for years since the modernization update. Top that off with the fact that no new content has been released for fucking ages. Hope mod support gets implemented soon.

The really shitty part is if you don't build your states when your character is "younger", it becomes even harder to level up. What kind of design is that? Maybe that's why it's hard to find other players you actually want to get good at the game. You build immunity to it over time, the more you do it your character get stronger against it (like FFII), but you also get another status ailment, called Cirrhosis. But to be fair, it only ruins the later levels of the game, where you get full of status ailments, so fuck it.

The only thing I noticed is that many girls are more into quick games that they can pick up and put down at any time, like Tetris or other puzzle games. That's why they enjoy "casual games" they can play when waiting for the bus to arrive, then turn off when they have to get in.

Boys, at least the nerd kind, seem to get more invested in games to actually do things like play RPGs. Women don't enjoy that, they don't want to play the same game for weeks and pick it up again and continue where they left off.

At least this is what I have observed. Oh yeah, they're also much more into multi-player games. My sister liked to play games like Bubble Bobble, Mario Kart and Gauntlet II with me. She also liked fighting games like SF2. I never cared much for those though.
