Hay /vr/troopers.
I'm looking for more sports games along the lines of Mutant League Football— preferably ones that keep as many of the rules of their core game intact as possible. In other words, more like Mutant League, less like Pigskin Footbrawl.

Theres this Robot Baseball game for Sega Gensis called Baseball 20/20 I think that's pretty good. It's not really brawling etc, but it's neat.

Basewars for NES. Robots playing Baseball. Sometimes they fight to the death. The Chicago team is broken as hell.

I don't think there is another game quite like mutant league football. I think they even had a cartoon. When i was a kid.

That game was the predecessor to NBA Jam. I shit you not. I spent umteen tokens/quarters on that game. the console port was a travesty, ut Midway learned from the experience.

The closest thing to it is Blood Bowl but that is a board game that recently got turned into a video game... The board game is 20+ years old but the video game is less than 5 years old... So... semi retro?

I have quite literally beaten this game in every way imaginable with every team using every handicap I can think of. Anyone have any ideas on how to squeeze more game play out of this?

Why has no one mentioned Speedball? That's fucking GOLD right there!

Cyberball is...interesting(players replaced with robots, football blows up after four downs, making '4th and long' a real tense affair), from what I hear, but keep in mind that it was released pretty early in the Genesis' life.

No one mentioned Hyperblade either. It's time to drink BLAM! and decapitate oponents, and we're all out of BLAM!.

The teams were screwy, Boston was just completely bent, Minnesota was awesome if you could use the battle gimmick well. The edit teams were just silly and ridiculous.
