It always made me mad that Nina's in-game sprite looked NOTHING like her artwork in BOF3. Her artwork form is so much better than her in-game look.

...then she actually did look like her artwork in the ending. What the hell, Capcom?

Bleu/Deis may overpower her, but I still use her.

Can any Breath of Fire fan shortly summarize the pros and cons of the firts four games? Are they worth playing?

1: Not very noteworthy, takes a long time to get going and even then it's isn't great. I wouldn't recommended it unless you absolutely must play every game in the series.
2: Much better than 1. Worth playing but I suggest you get the retranslation patch. Unlike the other games the dragon transformations act more like massive single-shot nukes than actual transformations. Shaman transformations are interesting but they are lost easily, which limits their effectiveness.
3: Pretty good. Most interesting and flexible dragon system of the series. Low points are the slow beginning and the general feel of "one step forward, two steps back" the plot takes for the first half of the game.
4: Personal favourite. Beautiful graphics (unfortunately marred by the questionable decision to use ugly 3D models for some bosses) and music. Probably the best plot of the series. Dragon system isn't as good as 3 but otherwise the combat is interesting enough for a JRPG.

I've only played 3 and 4, but BoF4 nina is such a plain jane in comparison, even if BoF3 loves derailing the plot.

I just beat three, so I'll expand my thoughts on this other dudes post.

>Beginning is slow
Understatement. The beginning feels completely irrelevant to the over arching plot and honestly if they had done a bit of re-writing they could've completely cut the child section out of the game and come to the same conclusion.

The leveling system is convoluted as all hell. Use a guide, figure out your party before hand and take note, you -will- be forced to use certain combinations to progress through the game, most notably Momo throughout a large portion of the game. You will completely lose your party about I dunno its less then halfway, but almost halfway through the game, and you will be forced to use Garr and Ryu, and you may never have used Garr outside of a few mandatory areas.

The master system is a mess and not explained at all. Use a guide. I used Ryu/Rei/Peco and it was a massive pain in the ass because I was constantly having to switch to Momo and Rei or Peco would have to take the bench and lose out on some EXP and they fell behind.

Desert of Death is a garbage area, and some of the other puzzles and other mandatory sidequests (Shisu, training Beyd, etc) can be a massive fucking headache.

Overall, its a solid 7 from me. Its fun, dicking around with genes is fun, but you will be forced to grind in a casual playthrough. You will be forced into using party members that you had no interest in, and can even sometimes result in having to backtrack. The intro seems pointless to the story for the most part (outside of a handful of key plot points) and theres an absolutely retarded twist towards the end.

2: From a story perspective, I liked how most of the characters have their own arcs to fill in the overarching plot. Especially compared to...
3: Personally this one was harder to play through than 2 and 4, mainly because the story. It's kind of like what I said about 2 but without the character arcs.
4: The translation/censorship, similar to 2's, is pretty bad. I still think it's the best story, but that does bog it down quite a bit imo.
