Ubisoft is master of the bait and switch.
God, the e3 shots of Farcry 3 were fucking GORGEOUS. Game? Meh. Watch_Dogs? Same deal.
Also UPlay can die in a fire, if I MUST have DRM, my DRM of choice is Steam. Origin isn't as obnoxious as UPlay, I just don't want 10 different programs on my computer. UPlay can die die die die DIE.

Fuck them, do exactly that, go indie with a few people like yourself. If you put something out like the mods I've seen from you, I can't imagine it not at least being a successful indie community game, ala Dwarf Fortress kinda shit.
I just don't see how a really good game crafted with lots of giveafuck and passion wouldn't be commercially successful (provided it, y'know, worked. Which I think is part of the giveafuck aspect).

Given that the industry in general is beholden, hell, damn near enslaved by consoles, I don't see the cost/benefit advantage of creating new engines for every game. It's not like we're allowed to push tech far, on the other side of the coin, not like we need to push the tech anywhere to make a compelling experience.
