6th gen threads are some of the only good threads in /v/ anymore, and even then you have to catch them at the right time with minimal shitposting, and about 90% of people there only plays those games via emulation and those sloppy HD collections.

A lot of people have already started collecting PS2 games and it's only a matter of time. It's all a matter of feelings, which means that right now it could feel like it's still multiple years away, next year could be drastically different.

There were so many games that you can't really talk about a core library of games everybody played. This means less shared nostalgia and a looser grasp on what the entire library is. The console ran for a very long time; this adds to the confusion.

At this point people are more likely to start counting the Gamecube as a retro console, because it doesn't share these problems with the PS2. Wait for more GCN resellers to pop up and see common games rise in price. When the GCN is considered retro, the PS2 will quickly follow.

I've noticed PS2 & OG Xbox games can be had in droves at local Goodwills sometimes for less than $5 nowadays. This is where NES, SNES, & Genesis games used to be some 10 - 15 years ago. Gamecube games are still high as ever unfortunately.

I've been playing through Castlevania:LOI. It could be a lot better in terms of room variety. However, it does really capture the atmosphere of Castlevania (music, monster designs, settings). I also like the hub world set up. It makes me wish Konami could make a Castlevania with modern 3D sensibilities but with the character/monster/setting designs of the ps2/ps1 era castlevanias. Also PS2 games have some comfy ass save rooms, pic-related.

The word retro has weird varied connotations anyway. I've heard people use it to classify at least fifty years in the past. It can also be concerning the recent past. I think 6th generation should be okay to post, there is enough distance (and interest, reseller scums are really losing it with some of these prices for PS2 games).
