Picked up this box of games from a yard sale a few hours ago. I'm new to retro so I don't really know what most of these games are worth. I dropped 90 bucks on the whole box, how did I do /vr/?

I can put my own collection in a box, too, OP.

There was a big one one last weekend by me. My friend went earlier and met this guy who marketed some Mortal Kombat games and got a number of games for cheap and two pins. I don't have any pics of the pins or games to share sadly

Thats exactly what I was thinking.

>Throw in some of your crap
>throw in some of your expensive games like PDS, Tron Bonne, or Earthbound
>suddenly /vr/ is creaming itself that theres still gems out there in rural america and they can find it

>meanwhile everyone's paid probably 75%ish of what the resellers are asking for on ebay or amazon and got and played their copy.

>> No.1689235

You got Panzer Dragoon Saga for $90 you lucky son of a bitch. That game is worth over $300 and is my favourite rpg of all time

Can we also make this an eBay scores thread? I just got Tactics Ogre for PS1 for 48 bucks which pretty decent imo. I put a proxy bid of up to 50 like 4 days ago and I came home and (to my surprise) I won.

I did the same for Vanguard Bandits on PS1 from the same seller, and it sold for 40 bucks.

So I get combined shipping and 2 very reasonable SRPG's I've been meaning to add to my collection.

Both are complete and in excellent shape fyi.

You did well. Panzer Dragoon Saga fetches a pretty penny.

Picked all this up today for $35. $6 each for the NES games, $5 for Wipeout, $7 for the anime DVD's and DS/GBA charger, and $5 for Pokemon.

The lady I bought the NES games from wouldn't come down on the prices but that's fine. Been a while since I found any retro related stuff. It's also rare that I find anime in my area.

Hey I picked up some Saturn stuff today too off of a local listing.

I paid $50 for the Saturn and the seller was a really cool guy, he said he'd toss in a box full of stuff for $20. Inside were these games, rest is not pictured like 2 sports games I don't care about, VF2, Virtua Cop and Daytona USA NFRs which are also dirt cheap, a Sega Genesis with no power cord so I can't test it and a Saturn system manual.

Cool Spot and Earthworm Jim 2 are cool games so I took him up on his offer and tossed in the extra $20. I think I did alright.

Lemme hijack this thread for a moment. Saturday is tomorrow, which means ACTUAL yard sales! Post your tips for charting a course, how to prepare, and making the most of your time.

General tips that have worked for me in the past:
-Hit up Craigslist for yard sale listings, and find all the candidates within a manageable radius of your home
-Plot the quickest path between those areas via a map
-Be sure to hit up the main roads and avoid expressways and interstates (there are no homes on those, it might be quick driving, but its missed opportunities)
-If you are driving, be sure to wake up at least a half hour before you plan to leave to pack some granola bars, water, and put gas in your car. Also make sure your oil isn't low, as that can have an impact on driving long distances, and constantly starting and stopping your vehicle. Make sure to stop before you get really going to get a coffee or energy drink if you have trouble waking up early.
-Wear sunscreen and sunglasses, and if it is really hot, be sure to keep a brimmed hat to keep sun out of your eyes and keep your head cool. Having a cooler of cold water bottles in your car will do you wonders.
-Carry a mixed amount of bills with you. I usually withdraw $60: Two 20s, a 10, a 5, and five singles. Flashing the smaller bills during haggling will encourage sellers to drop their prices if they believe you are strapped for cash.
-If you don't see games, ask! Just because you don't see it, doesn't mean it's not there! I've had plenty of sellers go inside and get me their retro games so I could buy them.
-Always be polite, even if the seller might not be. A smile disarms, and people are more likely to respond positively to a nice person.
-Never be afraid to hand out your email address or a phone number if someone thinks they'd have things for you, but they aren't on your person.

-If you get discouraged from lack of productive yard sales (or any sales at all), don't be afraid to take a break to hit up a local flea market or pawn shop.
-Haggling is an art, and not mastered easily. The best way to do this easily is to bundle things together. Instead of one PS1 game for $5, you can generally ask for 2 for $8, for example.
-Try to avoid conversation that doesn't lead itself to you getting games. More time spent gabbing equals less time spend grabbing.
-Affluent neighborhoods seem great on paper, but you'll rarely find retro pickups there. Most rich neighborhoods have already tossed their old games in lieu of current gen games (which is fine, if that's your thing)
-If you attend a garage sale you found in a craigslist ad, be respectful to their request for no early-birds. It's rude, disrespectful, and the seller will almost never sell you anything if you arrive before the even starts, especially if it's explicitly stated.
-Bring a buddy! Two pairs of eyes are better than one for spotting yard sale signs, and for helping you find pickups.
-End your yard saling by around 1 PM. By that time, most yards sales may be over, or have been picked clean by the other retro collectors/resellers.

And that's all I have to offer for now. If I missed anything, feel free to add on!

i went to a church rummage sale.
got a silver GB pocket with about 8 games and a 4 player adapter for $5, a boxed mario advanced 4 for $5 and mario & luigi SS for $5. saw an N64 for the same price in a bag, but a scummy reseller grabbed it before I could.. flat out tells me he resells, i wanted to deck him so hard. no idea what games there were so im going to imagine they were sports.

other than that, someone else got in super early and grabbed every other game. someone had a game gear and 15 games for 60 or 80 and an SNES with about 10 games (inc. contra 3, SMW and DKC) for 80. autism kid grabbed it for straight up, no trying to haggle.

After a few months break from retrogaming I went to a small event, and bought me pic related.
Mario world + DKC for €20, he wanted 25 first, hence the stickers, I offered 20, and when he declined I put the dkc down again, and he called me back.
King Arthurs World for €10, Goof Troop for €7, Buster Busts Loose was recommended by a fellow SNES fan I met over there, and got it for €5.
Secret of Mana I got from my dad for free, he got it as a fathers' day gift that many years ago, buy doesn't play anything except Snood and DX Ball any more.
The Gameboy games were €1 each, I'm curious as to what that black cartridge is, it doesn't even say "GAME" like those bootlegs usually do.

Actually, I have a rule when I browse yard sales: never buy a game I wouldn't play, even when I know it's worth ten times what the seller is asking.

Second rule, though: never tell a seller what his game is worth. If it's cheap and I like it, it's mine.

I never ever resell games. I sit on them like Smaugh on his gold.
