I'm currently making a WAD, this is how it goes so far.

I remember the first time I played Torn City/Ghoul's Forest, the Creeper messed me up good, I would turn around to look in corners after movement I thought I saw in the shadows.

To this very day, he still shows up in my nightmares sometimes. Always trailing me, I can see him on the automap, and I can hear him, and I keep running from him. He never catches me, but he also never stops following me.

Played Doom 2 In Name Only, loved it. Map that stood out the most to me was the new Gotcha. You start out running from an ungodly horde of Barons, only to end up in a field full of even more Barons, and taking refuge in a castle surrounded by a moat in the middle of all of it. Eventually you sneak out of the castle through the moat, into a dungeon.

It's creative, there's lots of fun fights, it's flavorful, I love it

The voxel models looked pretty good in Accessories To Murder, if a bit big, but I decided to remove the models from the .pk3 because they seriously dragged down my performance.

Making pickup items and stuff as voxels can be fine (though I honestly prefer sprites for Doom), and switches too, but spent casings is going to add up really fast I think.

There's PSX Doom, which adds a lot. They do edit the maps too though. Sometimes minorly, sometimes more.

And it removes the music. You can edit this all yourself though.

Actually I'm thinking of making "PSX Doom: Complete". Keeping all the nice stuff from PSX Doom TC (lighting, textures) but restoring the stuff from the original I like too (the music, archi-villes, removing limit on monster types, etc)

Here's the rundown of what's basically going to happen

First of all work is needed to get the thing done. This is where it'll mostly fail to get done because, if it is hard to get A1 sprites done for a single regular-sized monster, now imagine doing a big one, big enough to match the IoS, and now think about the rotations.

Now, let's say you got the sprites + code done. Put it in the game; enter the complains

I'm hoping for the same. I mean, I can respect their angle of not having beast/monster like faces, I guess. But on the same breath it doesn't -have- to be the 100% original sprite head, just as well not completely human, it's so unfitting (to me) on demons that don't make sense, Pinky being a prime example.. Well, I took a few minutes to alter some things, generally making the secret stuff not so unbelievably great, and cutting down on plasma ammo in general. I guess I tend to be too generous with the stuff I put in my secret areas, which also tend to be super obvious and easy to find. Also fixed the teleport at the end of the river, forgot to test it last time. Added some stuff around to maybe make the end part at least a little more difficult? one thing to note is that if you do take the river teleporter you won't have a blue key to get back inside. if you want i could make the door openable from the outside without the key, but if you prefer it left as a hazard for the unwary, that's fine too.

I'll give it a looky loo here in a second. Thanks for taking the time to play and record a demo and give feedback!

I removed a couple of the ssg ambush guys and changed when you get weapons, so the new version may be more to your liking but I still need to tweak stuff and I'm no longer sure how I should handle the red key door fight, since I think it may be fundamentally flawed as a finishing fight considering what comes before it.

I think I may chalk this map up to a learning lesson and focus on new things, since it was my second released singleplayer map and I think it has a couple of issues that are holding it back and probably not going to get fixed without a complete overhaul and restart from the beginning. And even then it will be an okay map at best.

It was originally going to be a 200 minute map, before I stopped and then later picked it back and continued it as a boom map. The starting room, the finishing fight that takes place in there, and the first room you go to (where you get the blue key) were the areas done during this part. In addition to being distinctly less detailed than later areas (because at that point I was aiming for vanilla compatibility, thought I was still over even then) I think they are somewhat unbalanced compared to the rest of the map, especially from the yellow key room to the final area.

The final area was originally far less ridiculous as far as number of imps and cacos, and I ratcheted it up to try to make it more challenging then the ykr, but I don't think I succeeded and that "arena" probably isn't suited for a larger fight without at least some substantial changes to the architecture.

I also tried to do a lot of effects in Boom, and this being my first Boom map that's not a DM map, I think the rest of the map suffered for it. I think it also held me back as far as keeping areas interconnected goes, since it's a lot easier to have sweeping changes in a self contained room than an area with good connections and views to the areas around it.

I'll probably end up using the bkr and the ykr room at some point in another future project (probably not the same one) at some point if they fit the rest of the map. When I map in Boom again I also think I'll focus less on over the top effects, since while it's a fun challenge it ends up taking a lot of time and really zdoom is better suited for maps that do such things. I could have done all those in 1/20 the time in acs.

Thanks again for playing. I guess I'm posting all this to see if you or others generally agree with my evaluation of the map (which I've come to with yours and others feedback) or if I'm off the mark on stuff or misunderstanding people's responses.

Voxel monsters look very much like shit, there'd be an unbelievable amount of work needed to make even one set of rotations, and it's very very difficult to make it look good.

Couple this with Brutal Doom already being processor intensive as it is, and you've got yourself a whole lot of exercise in futility.

I think voxels can be very good when used in the right places, but you'd might as well just render actual models if you want three dimensions.

huh... I thought adding Ketchup stuff would take longer... I'll sit on next update a bit longer to get mini Revenants and Trite imp I mentioned earlier. So what I did besides integrating Ketchup Gore mod, enemies now leave behind a corpse which can be gibbed unless they are gibbed already.

When you gib a corpse they have a chance to drop a random pickup (clip, shell, health bonus... etc.), but human zombies may spawn a mini Revenant, which doesn't have a ranged attack but can be picked up once killed (and be ammo for the mini-revenant shoots like crazy). Also Imps spawn a trite on death, have fun.

So I played a bit of Hell Revealed 2 with Doom95, I gotta say, Doom95 is an interesting way of playing vanilla Doom. I know it's outdated with stuff like Chocodoom and whatnot, but there's something about playing it with a source port from the mid 90s that makes it feel special. Probably the low as shit resolution. Wish it didn't fuck up MAP02's MIDI in Final Doom TNT, though. What is it with that MIDI file that makes it get fucked up all the time? I've never heard of any other original Doom MIDI having such issues.

Well, there's a graphic for the charging-handle, bolt and oprod all the way back, it's the second sprite on the chart, but I didn't make it part of the muzzle-flash graphic, because I don't like the idea of the bolt unlocking and traveling back before the pressure in the chamber has dropped to safe levels, otherwise I could risk getting sprayed with hot, jagged bits of brass (and damage the barrel).

I figure that graphic would display after the flash.
This would also be much easier to edit and make if it was centered.

Pic related gives you a pretty good idea of how the bolt and oprod would behave, but problem is I can't really draw worth shit at this perspective, I can cobble and edit pictures, but that's the limits of my ability.

Fires multiple pellets, is cycled manually after every shot, aside from the 50-100 round tube magazine, it checks out. What if the replacement imps wore the same armor or clothes as Doomguy and used the watergun variants of the zombie weapons? DoomRL Chests

Kinda makes it easier with more ammo and mods to go around, almost cheating even...
-Replaces Stimpacks, Medikits and Berserker Packs with chests.
-Chests drop various goodies, but also guaranteed to drop what they replaced.
-Explosive barrels maybe replaced with barrels that drop loot or remain the same (making "Barrels Of Fun" really fun)

Up next;
*Replace Health/Armor bonus with random junk since they drop from chests too.
*Moar chests (as in a certain type of chest reward certain kind of items, instead of sprinkling different kinds of items) and graphix for different sizes of Demon Chests.
*Lootable decorations.
*Prevent "loadsa pistols"

Works with DoomRL 7.1, load last, all in decorate so it might even be save compatible, pk3 so rip stuff if you reall want... etc. etc.

I think all hell monsters are genderless, but female former humans would be neat.
