I think realistically theres 2 ways to look at it:

I'm of the latter camp. I could own a bunch of really shit games but I play all the games I own, and I only own games I like.

Sometimes I end up with a game that I think I would like that I end up not liking. Then I usually try to recoup the costs or trade it for another thing. I usually have what I call the "float bin" which is where the games I don't like go and if ever theres like a swap meet or whatever I just grab the bin and go.

I think I've added a few since that pic. China Warrior and Silent debuggers are missing the manuals. The other Silent Debuggers is actually Tricky Kick and Double Dungeons is actually Drop Off. Magical Chase is in a different Hu-card case because it never came with it's own case and I haven't felt like buying a repro case. Also, I have factory sealed copies of Exile and Cosmic Fantasy 2, a Kisado converter and 5 random loose PC-Engine games.

My current set up, the majority of it's retro i guess. Only been collecting about a year and a half, and a lot of the Ps1/Ps2 games were sourced through car boot sales etc. I like to pick up games for cheap in the wild that's what i love most about collecting. FF7 for £3? Sure! The most expensive part of my collection is probably my Saturn imports, which ironically you cant see in the pics. ha ha

Well here goes
A few months back we moved in here, and while this house is way bigger than my last 200 square feet suicide-box, space is still scarce.
The only place where there was still reasonable room for my Super Nintendo (yeah yeah 50hz cancer) was in the bedroom closet.
I built a simple L-shelf from some plexiglass and nailed it to the wall and put the SNES there. Pulled all the wires from the back to there's no clutter. The TV is some piece of shit Philips, but it's still way better than my old Daewoo flatscreen I used for retro gaming (what was i thinking)

First I made some boxes for my loose carts (vervalkon.tumblr.com) but ultimately settled on whacking some nails to the wall so the carts can hang from their little holes on the wall.

Whenever I want to play, it's just a matter of opening the door and lying on the bed. Comfy!

Yeah, my Genesis collection is rather weak. I never was a big Genny fan as I grew up with a SNES. I haven't been that interested in it out side of a few titles. The only ones I'm particularly interested in that I don't have are the Phantasy Star and Shining Force games, Musha, Gunstar Heroes, Comix Zone, Herzog Zwei, Crusader of Centy, and a couple other not so cheap games.

The internet made things instantaneous. People like that quick win, that satisfying endorphin rush of winning an auction of something rare, acquiring something expensive.

If you're in no rush, you can get a sizeable collection at a fraction of the cost of someone just gobbling up the games at whatever price.
