There's a big difference between compulsive hoarding and fun collecting.
I mean, there's some people who have, like, 80-something copies of Super Mario Bros or every Madden game despite hating the series, which I find kinda shitty.

Just make sure you sell off the stuff that you don't actually care about. Like, you never need more than one copy of a game.

I think realistically theres 2 ways to look at it:

>Indiscriminately collecting the entire library for a console
>Collecting only the good games, or games you like

I'm of the latter camp. I could own a bunch of really shit games but I play all the games I own, and I only own games I like.

Sometimes I end up with a game that I think I would like that I end up not liking. Then I usually try to recoup the costs or trade it for another thing. I usually have what I call the "float bin" which is where the games I don't like go and if ever theres like a swap meet or whatever I just grab the bin and go.

Well here goes
A few months back we moved in here, and while this house is way bigger than my last 200 square feet suicide-box, space is still scarce.
The only place where there was still reasonable room for my Super Nintendo (yeah yeah 50hz cancer) was in the bedroom closet.
I built a simple L-shelf from some plexiglass and nailed it to the wall and put the SNES there. Pulled all the wires from the back to there's no clutter. The TV is some piece of shit Philips, but it's still way better than my old Daewoo flatscreen I used for retro gaming (what was i thinking)

First I made some boxes for my loose carts (vervalkon.tumblr.com) but ultimately settled on whacking some nails to the wall so the carts can hang from their little holes on the wall.

Whenever I want to play, it's just a matter of opening the door and lying on the bed. Comfy!

>some piece of shit Philips
You know, Philips made some of the best (shadowmask) CRT-tubes back in the day. But the strange thing is, they sometimes put tubes from other manufacturers in their own name-branded TVs.

Why don't you leave us alone?
We don't want your opinions. You are not gonna change how much we enjoy collecting and experiencing everything that is related to it.
Just hide the thread, We never argue over how much collecting is better than non-collecting, why do you think you feel the need to tell us we need to stop enjoying the things we enjoy?
Why do you think you hold the key to our happiness? Do you think you're liberating us?
You're not. You're just wasting everyone's time with shit you decided you should tell us when nobody asked for it.
You are ruining our threads and actively trying to prevent us to have a good time sharing our collections. We all understand how above it all you really are, so why don't you just spare us for a moment and hide the thread and move on to do things you consider important in your life?
Leave us alone. That is all we ask.
Thank you.

You have good taste in which games you decide to display. Very jealous of your Umihara Kawase copies.

That collection is too real.

The only thing my collection has on yours is a larger genesis selection.

I start listings at 99 cents and they end up selling for more than a lot of the buy it now choices. Collectors are the worst enemy of collecting.

You mean "other Collectors" are your worst enemy.

Yeah, my Genesis collection is rather weak. I never was a big Genny fan as I grew up with a SNES. I haven't been that interested in it out side of a few titles. The only ones I'm particularly interested in that I don't have are the Phantasy Star and Shining Force games, Musha, Gunstar Heroes, Comix Zone, Herzog Zwei, Crusader of Centy, and a couple other not so cheap games.

Only a fucking retard pays reseller prices for anything that can be reproduced for less than ten percent of the asking price. Whatever, justify your purchases all you like. I only have games to play them, and if I have enough, give them as gifts.

>> No.1672889

>>1672875
Yes, but because of that prices remain high. Sellers just see what collectors are willing to pay and roll with it. If people stopped purchasing altogether then prices would be forced to fall, but idiots pay far more than they should because "i'muh collektor" and "gaem is wurth it."

You can still find deals on overpriced games. Surf eBay, surf amazon, surf your local places sometimes you'll end up finding a deal.

The internet made things instantaneous. People like that quick win, that satisfying endorphin rush of winning an auction of something rare, acquiring something expensive.

If you're in no rush, you can get a sizeable collection at a fraction of the cost of someone just gobbling up the games at whatever price.

Oh I'm not saying you can't, but the fact that all people don't is what's detrimental.

I always hit up Flea Markets and Op Shop's ( Goodwills, Second Hand stores, whatever ), nothing better than finding costly game for cheap, gotta be fast when it comes to markets though.

>> No.1674329

Not completely retro related, but how would you go about importing games? There are several items on my wishlist for multiple systems that I wish to own but never made it state-side, and the only method of import I've seen is expensive as fuck.

Rakuten, AliExpress (use caution), eBay stores, or ask at classic gaming forums.
