P.S. This is ongoing in that aligning the text for the game/optimizing display is a *very* slow and tedious process. It could take months just doing that. Overall though this should be a relatively minor point, I hope.

*If* the patch works for you and you enjoy it, and if I were the only one working on this I would ask if anyone had paypal donations to send but I guess that wouldn't be appropriate. Feel free to send me messages and mail, though. (My contract ends at the end of August so I'm trying to find clients; I run my own business but 0 regular clients = 0 regular income. Open cmd

after using cd to enter the xdelta folder write
xdelta patch filenameofpatch.patch filenameofrom.nds
Be sure to leave the xdelta, the .patch file and the rom on the same folder.

Pic is the last line, i recommend leaving filenames real simple because it's easier to see what's what.

I made this wallpaper for fun, it kinda sucks, but it also looks kinda cool.
The sign graphic in the middle was made by SAGCCX, and I tried my best to get it to look good (the original image had a big nasty Zazzle logo watermark on it) but sadly the only way I could easily do that was to have it aliased.
And the stars in the background are from Retro Game Challenge.

So I just beat Ace Detective 2, and would like some confirmation on something (pretty major spoiler):

When you're asked to write in where the entrance to the secret passage to the CX Industries basement is, is "LAKE" the right answer but "Lake" gets rejected? Because I could swear that I repeatedly wrote "Lake" but it just kept getting rejected, and only after ages of thinking did I finally try "LAKE" and it worked. The reason I'm asking is because later when you're revealing who the leader of Love&Game is, you can enter "Kibe" and it works just fine, so I'm kind of confused whether caps is required or not.

Uh, it worked perfectly for me. Point the patch box at the patch, and the file box at the rom. The patched rom will come out as "(File Name)_patched.nds". (i.e. if you named the original, unpatched rom "GCCX2.nds", the program will spit out the patched version as "GCCX2_patched.nds".

Is there any guide for Guadia quest yet? I just want to finish this pile of shit so I can play the end-game stuff. Daily challenges are annoying because I just want to play all of them at once instead of messing with my system clock.

Honestly, the game feels like a real step down from the first. Kung-fu is the only game I actually enjoyed. Demon returns is either too slow (on foot) or too fast (while riding), whoever decided on the physics was a fucking moron. Wiz-man is beyond awful, Gunduel is so incredibly easy it presents no challenge, and Triotos just makes me wish I was playing a better puzzle game. Ace detective is totally ruined by the slow text speed. It made sense for the Japanese version, reading in kana is slow anyway. When part 2 appeared, I almost killed myself before realising there were no challenges for it.

Reading the article and listening to him talk about it on the Game|Life Podcast, my guess is that he's at most a casual fan of the show who's probably seen only a few episodes. He gushed a lot about the first two games being throwbacks to old games and the gaming experience around them (sitting on the floor by the TV, getting the magazines every month and learning about secret tricks and upcoming games), but he didn't say anything about the references to GCCX (like the ADs being article writers and whatnot). That's a quite wonky question, all things considered. I wouldn't consider Arino to be close to a LPer, since the game is pretty much never shown off in its entirety.

However, you could consider the live shows to be a Let's Play of sorts, especially those where he doesn't pick up from a certain point he reached on a TV episode (Quest of Ki, Pilotwings, Lemmings).

Then of course there's the question of "who else would qualify as the first professional Let's Player", and that opens up a whole new can of worms. Better to not go down that avenue.

The text scrolls fast enough by pressing B (excluding the few parts like intro/outro and "critical" moments). You can even enable fast walk on the map by pressing select (while standing still).
The first game wasn't exactly perfect, either. Having two sets of practically identical games (Haggleman 1 & 2 / Rally King & SP) was pretty disappointing and the Guadia Quest challenges took forever to beat when compared to the other games. Haggleman 3 was a fucking masterpiece, though.

Transport streams are meant for encoders. Even if you made a full HD 60FPS release out of it, the filesize would be reduced by two thirds at least.
The raws on Nigoli's blog aren't 60 FPS, but when you have a 460MB release on Mega and a 4,5GB transport stream as a torrent (with only few seeders), the choice should be pretty obvious.

But Game Master Arino isn't Chief Arino. The little kid Arino is Chief Arino from the past, Game Master Arino is some sort of manifestation of the frustration Chief Arino experienced during his challenges (which would explain why he's always so determined, he simply tunes out the frustration until it grew too far and literally split from him).

As for the story, that's because the formula worked. People enjoyed the retro game inspired games and the "sent back in time" plotline is there because the whole thing is about nostalgia, and what better way to be nostalgic than by literally going back in time?

While a game where you play the newest AD, helping Arino succeed at a succession of games while lorded over by Supreme Overlord Kan would be more true to the show, that's not what they were going for.

I love the show, but sometimes there are really awkward and dubious moments.

That might be interesting, but what would the goal be? Metropolis? It definitely can't be Megalopolis, that requires a whole bunch of min-maxing, but going for Capital would be too easy.

Then we'd also have the problem of footage - a lot of time is spent just waiting for more money, which would eat up a lot of challenge time without producing any real footage unless Arino gets creative with jokes.

We watch an adorable 30-40 year-old man play classic games and visit arcades/restaurants/stores (all of which have games). He tries to beat them in a time limit and he isn't especially good at many of them (though to be fair for most of them it's his first time or it's been years). He tends to repeat a lot of mistakes, like letting go of the controller to celebrate after beating a boss, only for the boss to change forms and start beating him. Sometimes they have fun segments, like one where he plays a ridiculously awful game and phones viewers for advice.

It's delicious.

Reading more on it, I learnt also that fried ice cream was popular in the 80s and 90s in "Mexican" and Tex-Mex restaurants. The batter was flavoured with cinnamon to give it a churro-like flavour.

Today, it's not very common, but is nonetheless quite delicious. And this is coming from someone whose home culture deep-fries fucking everything. You can't walk 50 metres in my hometown without passing a fry shop.

There's a Game Center CX app for Android/iOS in Japan that has a (pay) 'GCCX Channel' video section where they show cut footage, unaired stuff, and segments that (likely couldn't) make the cut for the show. The clips are short (2-4 minutes) and it updates a couple times a week, so it's good for a nice GCCX fix when commuting, plus sometimes they're a bit slipshod/raw, which is usually pretty hilarious (Kan sighing loudly as they set-up another shot after Inoue messes up a line, Watanabe actually getting mad at fat jokes, etc) .

The most recent segment is pretty good, it's called "We Probably Don't have a Good Answer, but...". It's Arino, Abe, and Fujimoto giving advice about random requests from the staff (and soliciting ones from viewers). The first one was Fukawa (who got married a few years ago) asking what insurance he should get. Fujimoto had no helpful advice, Arino just said he leaves his insurance stuff to a friend, while Abe (deeply) detailed the best plan for a married man with kids.

Part 2/3 was from 'a thirty-year-old office lady' who had a man she was interested in, but he wanted her to lose weight 'till you look like Kanna Hashimoto' before they started dating. She turned out to be Producer Ai Hashiguchi (from the second Paris special). Unable to reach a decision, they demanded to see a picture of him. It wasn't shown, but Abe instantly noticed he was posing with a Lexus.

Fujimoto "Oh, so he's kinda rich?"
Abe "It's one of the tiny, cheap models. Pass."

After that they agreed he wasn't worth it, and set her up on a date with Inoue. Then decided Takahashi (Cardigan) was better, and told Inoue to hit the bricks. Then Takahashi declined "Because...you know...I already...". Then Inoue was apparently okay again and a date was arranged.

Well it kinda feels like it to people who can't take a look behind the curtain as the SA forums have been pay2read for months now. For most of us it's been over 2 months of zero activity.

What makes matters much worse is that Gaki no Tsukai subbing has suffered the same fate at the same time.
All the great reliable subbers openly say they don't have time/motivation anymore or just plain disappeared and no one is jumping in.

We obviously can't complain since people do it for fun in their free time but it still sucks.

PC games on GCCX are a strong unlikelyhood to begin with.
A large part of GCCX is rooted in nostalgia, and DOOM is nostalgic primarily for western audiences, not Japanese audiences.
FPS in general is not an especially popular genre in Japan.
