So I read the article on this on the /v/ recommends wiki. Apparently you can get for like $30? And also it has no copy protection (and has some games I'm interested in) so I don't even have BUY games or mod anything to play them and have that authentic console experience? This sounds fucking sweet!
Do you guys know of any cheap and trustworthy places on the net to buy one? Or should I just go asking on the BST thread?

Also, feel free to just talk about the system in general.

You read wrong, or were given inaccurate info. You won't be able to find one for less than $130 USD, assuming it even works.

It actually does say it there, I read it right, but you're right. Looking, $130 is the lowest price I can find it for.

If it's any consolation, I really don't think the 3DO had a noteworthy library, and a few games were actually ported over to Saturn and PS1 as well.

According to page, it has some fun games, but yeah, a fuck ton of ports. The reason I'm interested though is because it doesn't have copy protection, it has the original (and apparenly uncensored) version of D, and because it has the best console versions of Super Turbo and Samurai Showdown, apparently.

But mostly the no copy protection thing.

Good (or at least worth to check) 3DO games gentlemen?

Alone in the Dark, Lucienne's Quest, Slayer, Robinson's Requiem, Dragon's Lair, Space Ace, Kingdom The Far Reaches, Guardian War... But I like RPGs. I'm sure someone else can tell you about Street Fighter Alpha, Samurai Shodown, Road Rash, Need for Speed and a bunch of other shit like that.

Seriously though the experience you're yearning for, a $30 console that can play tons of great burned games unmodified can be had with pic related. Do you already have one or something?

Also Street Fighter 2 as another best console port.

The best game/port for the 3DO has been open source since 2002.

The best version of Wolfenstein 3D. It's the DOS version with improved graphics, sound and music. There's no censorship of any kind. It also includes the Nocturnal Missions pack (except modified to have the bosses from Spear of Destiny for some reason) and adds two new weapons (flamethrower and rocket launcher).

I'm repeatedly told playing burnt disk will wear out the laser, though. And that as me questioning the durability of the console in general, so Dream Cast doesn't seem like an option.

>> No.1656883

>>1656864
On the Dreamcast, yes. Less of an issue for the Saturn. The Playstation's laser diode is cheap shit probably rated for the single-digit-thousands of hours. Basically, on the DC, data is ordered in a specific way on a GDROM, minimizing seeking. On a CDROM, if the files aren't written in a particular order, the system has to constantly seek to find it, wasting read hours and such.

Not a major concern if you don't play, say, Power Stone 2 for 15 minutes every hour, every day.

That's *disc, optical media. Disks are magnetic storage and hard disk drives.
