What's more retro-accurate: Princess Toadstool or Peach?

>> No.1650010

Technically, she was always Peach. It depends on what part of the world you live in.

I don't know anybody to this day who prefers the name Toadstool over Peach.

I call her Toadstool to piss off friends.
It's good fun.

On a side note:
Why are Goombas the only things relating to mushrooms at all? Toadstools aren't mushrooms, and Toads are definitely representing of toadstools.
Could the Toadstools have conquered the Mushroom empire? Deepest lore.

1) A toadstool is a part of a mushroom. It is a gilled fruiting-body cap that sits atop a stem, such as the top part of the common mushroom.
Alternately, it can also refer to mushrooms of this type.

Other analogous parts in other sorts of mushrooms include shelves, which are the gilled fruiting-body caps of mushrooms that lack obvious stems and grow on the sides of trees (see sulphur shelf mushroom and hen of the woods mushroom) and fronds, which are the fruiting-body parts of another type of mushroom (see snow mushroom and black jelly mushroom).

2) Clearly, Goombas are not the only things related to mushrooms in le Royaume Champignon.

IIRC, it was Matio 64 where she was first referred to as "Peach" so she was Princess Toadstool all through games like SMB2 and Mario Kart where she was a playable character. Wasn't it SMB3? The same one where they changed "King Koopa" to "Bowser, King of the Koopas?" I remember thinking that much like the princess from SML, Peach was a new bitch in Mario's life until SM64 when she introduced herself to the player via letter as 'Princess Toadstool Peach.'
I only know of the lore via English-language media as Nintendo was never popular in my country until the GBC's release.

Calling her Peach makes me feel like a pervert ever since I learned peach is also slang or a euphemism for pussy.

Warning, personal autismal headcanon:

Peach: First name Peach, last name Toadstool. Pretty straightforward, really.

Eggman: His name is Ivo Robotnik. "Eggman" was just a nickname that stuck.

Koopa: "Koopa" is the name of their entire race. Any time you see the name King Koopa, it's really just shorthand for "King of the Koopas."

As for Robotnik / Eggman. I grew up with knowing him as Robotnik then didn't play another Sonic until I was a teenager and didn't know about his name change. I disliked it then and I dislike it now, just as I didn't see a reason for the chnage and yes, it sounds stupid.
>>1650935
Robotnik to me was never a stupid villain or manchild, he was pretty evil as things go. Hell even if we're going by a 3D game in SA2 he blew up half the moon. I just don't think Eggman suits him. But hey I also don't really like the Sonic series beyond 3&K

Odd. I know like I know like I know that I'd heard of her name being Peach in game sometime before SM64. As neither I nor anyone I've ever known has ever owned a Super Scope, I'm sure it's not from that Safari game.
Where else could I have heard it?! The reason I'm 100% sure I knew of her namechange prior to SM64 was, as I said (>>1650226), I was pleased to learn that her name was Peach Toadstool because it cleared up my prior confusion that Peach was an entirely separate entity.
You know how you might not remember details very well, but you remember feelings quite vividly? I very clearly remember being confused by 'Peach' and thinking 'Okay, so this Mario dude's got the mushroom bitch, then he's got that Daisy bitch from Sarasaland and now some fruity Peach bitch?' then playing SM64 and feel relief that mushroom bitch and fruit bitch are the same bitch.
Where could I have seen that Peach and Toadstool are one and the same prior to SM64?

I get that since you need to aim at the screen anyway, you don't have to worry about people breaking their IR link but damn SIX batteries? I wasn't even a little kid anymore and holding that menacer up was too much of a bitch to be fun for real long term gaming. I guess that's why Nintendo opted to stick some of the weight on your shoulder but it made yo look like a tool especially since my arms were man length by then.

Not as successfully though, I'd say. It helps that "Peach" sounds like a first name a whole lot more than "Toadstool", so it was really easy to accept as her "actual" name.

Meanwhile, Sonic had the unenviable task of turning Robotnik into "Eggman", playing it off as an insulting nickname Sonic made up... which he then chooses to call himself anyway?

Still, I'm glad that things happened the way, and that east and west canon merged so smoothly. Dobson nostalgia aside, I don't think I could stand to see DiC's concepts for Mario or Zelda pushed in the series. Well, "again", after the CDi games.
