Any other games with a lot of boss fights, nothing but boss fights, or just notable for its bosses in any way? Pic related and Dynamite Headdy come to mind.

Really, big bosses were the highlight of platforming/action gaming for me when I was a kid, and I want to relive the hype. Anyone else was that hype for bosses and sorely disappointed when the game failed to deliver in the boss department?
>tfw game turns out to have no bosses
>tfw game has one boss repeated several times throughout the game
>tfw the bosses are minigames

Also post general boss porn

Post is not entirly retro so polite sage
Vergil in DMC3 was a fantastic bossfight, challenging, rewarding, and really hype. My favourite boss battle.
As for retro games, I gotta say K.Rool from DKC1. Awesome boss, multiple forms, a kick-ass song and it's so satisfying when you win.

Alien Soldier is also a great game, a little too hard for me (Personally stuck on the fish guy, stage 12 I believe). Hard Corps is also great, and Punch-Out!!! is in the same vein when you think about it.

G-Darius is the only game I can think of where the bosses greatly outshine every other aspect. Not only because they're really cool looking, but also because they pick up some ludicrously fast danmaku patterns later on. (Provided you're playing the PS2 version)

What? The ONLY game you can think of? Bosses are very often a highlight in action games, and there are a decent number of games, like Contra: Hard Corps or Gunstar Heroes, where the actual levels are mediocre for the most part.

I recently found out about "Phoenix". It's notable for having one of the first video game bosses ever. Pretty cool.

I love the music.
The game itself I don't much care for.

I really like the bosses in Omega Boost.

They're just so simple and bullshit free. You shoot at the bosses until they die while dodging tons of projectiles, and that's it.

For some reason that feels to me like something you don't see all that often in 3D games.
It seems like there's always specific weak point that's only sometimes exposed, or some kind of cool down period after the boss attacks for a while when you can just wail on it, or you have to wait for the boss to do a certain attack which allows you to counter attack it somehow, or some other equally lame thing we've all seen a billion times by now which basically boils down to "constantly dodge until the game decides you've waited long enough to have a chance to attack".

Radiant Silvergun, also by Treasure, is full of humungous bosses.

>> No.1642072

Joe and Mac. Some of the levels are just a few jumps or a short walk from the boss.

I think Megaman Legends had a lot of fun bosses.

Silpheed (original) was a lot of boss fights...the last level is a bunch of bosses in a row, then finalboss.

I played Silpheed on a 286 back in the mid-to-late 80s...then again in the early 00s, it held up surprisingly well. I never played any of the remakes/sequels

You actually mean this version?

I'd say the Sega CD remake/sequel/whatever is well worth checking out if you liked the original.

yup, CGA graphics and everything. I was 4-5 yrs old, watched my older brother fight the finalboss which was like a 15 minute (seemed like an hour) battle, during which his damaged ship lost a weapon, lost rapidfire, then got crippled so he could only move slowly while wobbling everywhere, but managed to defeat it just before he would've died. was such an epic feel. he kinda cheated though by constantly hitting ESC to pause during the fight
