holy shit i've been waiting for the atomic bun scorcher 5000 to come out for 30++ years. We can finally experience the dreams of retro yore in glorious 8K resolution on the finest of plasmatic computer monitors. Faith in humanity restored

>> No.1637753

The idea of the thing is exciting but the design looks unappealing and the controller looks incredibly uncomfortable like some garbage Philips considered for their worthless CD console.

Definitely not getting one, I'd rather just get cheap used consoles.

No thanks, I'll just buy my consoles at flea markets like a smart consumer.

You can. It has ports for old controllers.

I buy consoles so I don't have to deal with emulation limitations. What is the point of this.

I was thinking about buying one for my living room t.v., but I already have a pc with retro usb controllers hooked up, as well as a soft modded Wii. So.... I think I'm gonna pass.

I can see the appeal of it honestly if you don't care about genuine hardware. I don't want one personally since I actually own all of the consoles, but I'm not sure why /vr/ has such a hate-boner for the thing.

>> No.1638204

Nah, I already have all those consoles, and it's not hard playing imports on the NES or SNES. PRetty neato I guess, you can't beat the real thing though.

>> No.1638206

>>1638196
>but I'm not sure why /vr/ has such a hate-boner for the thing.
Because you can get like two softmodded Wiis for the same price, and even one of those will outpreform the Retron. Also because we've had this thread a million times by now.

>> No.1638208

Seems retarded but there were times I've wanted to build a full Jamma cabinet for emulation. Monitors kind of died off in the last 10 years though. Don't think it will be possible to make a decent one again.

>> No.1638234

>>1638206
Softmodded Wiis don't accept like 10 different kinds of physical cartridges. I understand that there are more practical ways to play games from a handful of consoles on a single platform, but there aren't any other ways to play physical media on one concise, all-in-one platform.

>> No.1638241

>>1638234
>Softmodded Wiis don't accept like 10 different kinds of physical cartridges
What's the point of emulating with physical carts?

>> No.1638242

>>1638234
the system doesnt even play the cartridges it loads the data into the flash memory and runs it in its shitty emulator could probably yank the game out and keep playing.

>> No.1638246

>>1638241

The hell of it. The same reason to play any game on any media.

>> No.1638249

>>1638234
I feel like someone who doesn't mind having the piles of carts won't mind having a few consoles plugged in either. It also seems like only a collector would really need the import features, collectors already have consoles, and the non-imported consoles can be had for less than $140. So this thing has left me very confused.

>> No.1638251

>>1638246
So the only reason to buy a retron is for the hell of it? I guess I can't argue with that.

That has absolutely nothing to do with it, it's about a lack of documentation.

Do they sell the controllers on their own? They're bluetooth keyboards for an Android based system, right? I wouldn't mind getting my hands on one of those for my tablet.

Indeed. The XBMC guys have loads of issues with refresh/frame rates on Android, let alone something like videogame emulation.
