I think /vr/ct is spoiled with our compact coasters. No one ever seems to have a good sprawling, long distance track anymore.

>> No.1616730

>>1616695
I think there's really only a few instances where sprawling is particularly effective. It's basically mandatory for twisters - if you try to coil 80ft inversion amongst each other the result is hideous. It works well for gigas and out and back woodies as well. Everything else, I think, is best served by being compact and dense.

I've been planning a sprawling coaster park over some islands - A large giga with hacked chain lift speed for a long launch track, a sprawling suspended looping coaster with its inversions over various isles, a large woodie coiling around a larger island, along with a few smaller ones.

I like to build my hyper-twisters and gigas to have tons of coiled track, but there was a few scenarios that ground-hugging coasters could be built in massive, sprawling out-and-back designs. Elwynn Forest, Loch Modan, and Set Sail for Hail were all great for huge coasters. Mainly because they all have large hills and landscapes that you can use to build on.

>> No.1616986

Any of you guys ever tried to replicate a coaster from when you were a kid? You know that one you grew up with and swore was the greatest in the history of coasting?

My own personal favorite never worked because the designers seemed to forget that there are ways of traveling apart from massive banked turns

also what's everyone's preference to research and land purchasing when playing a scenario. when i make scenarios i usually just make all the land already purchased and have everything researched. I guess because i like to focus on park building and dont like to wait around for research and money to buy land. plus seting up the invention list, ithink, is even more tedious than landscaping. Just trying out an idea for a wooden rollercoaster that came to be while I was asleep, based on those "1 by X" synched up scam coasters I see from time to time.

Surprisingly, that 105ft drop doesn't completely murder the ratings. It just needs a big lift hill to get some height, give it some crests and hills on the way and make sure you have at least 105ft left at the halfway mark, turn it around and some some more hills on the way back.

Station needs to be 4 length, for both the entrance station and the exit station, hardly matters though when you can have block brakes and run loads of separate cars on it at the same time.

People just say that to deter piracy. As long as you're not a retard and download from an untrusted user with only 1 seed or something, you should be fine. Generally when a torrent has a crapload of seeds, it's legit. Ignore comments from idiots that say "THIS EXE IS A VIRUS", especially on a trusted torrent. Cracked exes almost always generate a false positive on AV programs.

Either way, just remember that a virus can't permanently destroy a computer. Keep your important stuff backed up on an external drive and reinstall your entire operating system if the virus becomes too embedded to remove.

What is it with the trend in the rollercoaster industry to make rides with really small trains?

>> No.1620560

>>1620548
Maybe it's a physics thing, smaller trains means smaller mass so they lose more momentum on hills and such, allowing them to make compact designs? That would be my guess, I'm having a hard time seeing a ride like The Smiler with an 8 car monstrosity of a train on its rails.

Is this a launch coaster? if so, I'd seriosuly recommend switching your hills beginning piece with the large/smooth slope (as in the same type of piece that enters the hill that circles the space shuttle). that might help the negative vertical Gs some. if that shoots out with enough speed to make it past the hill, with that quick of a slope transition, that would cause alot of discomfort.

A few possibilities:
1. It's new, and therefore has the novelty going for it
2. You have guests that prefer intense rides... which probably isn't the case seeing as how the go-karts have full lines
3. It's in a place that gets more foot traffic.

Not even Action Contraption, with its objectively better ratings and novelty, managed to get a single full load until I tinkered with the wait times 6 years later, this is 13 years old, 10 second wait, and full loads all day very day.

>guests prefer intense rides
This might actually be the case. As guests ride roller coasters and thrilling rides, they gain the courage to face bigger rides, and their preferred ride intensity goes up.

>foot trafic
Perhaps, although other areas have heavier traffic.

It could just be a fluke or something. There are 2800 guests in the park. In the collab park, there are about 1800 or 2000 (with a decent amount located in the He-man and Skeletor queue lines) so it could just be lack of guests.

Noose is the favorite ride of only 85 guests, while Action Contraption (to my surprise, given it's apparent lack of popularity) has around 400.

Intensity isn't always a bad thing, though. Guests seem to expect certain intensities on certain rides, and some rides naturally have higher intensities. Woodies are more intense than steel coasters due to the roughness, and corkscrew coasters are higher than looping coasters due to the headbanging on the sides of the restraints (damn you Vortex). I assume LIMs derive their high intensity from the initial thrill when the train is launched.

Hey guys, I haven't played RCT in years but I just decided to get into it. Just got RCT and RCT2, but I have a few questions.

Most urgently: when I start up either game, the colors are fucked up and everything is pink. I'm running them on Windows 7- how can I resolve this? Googling seemed to suggest running on XP (would rather not) or adjusting my system settings every time I run the game. Is there any better solution or do I really have to adjust my setting every time I start/close the game?

Second, does the resolution hex edit work on RCT2, or only RCT1?

Third, I heard there was some sort of RCT->RCT2 import? Should I bother with this or just use the recreations in the OP?

Thanks guys, hoping to make some wild rides.

Just an FYI to everyone in this thread having trouble even running the game error-free:

I ran RCT2 in Linux under WINE, and it ran perfectly. It actually ran better than it ever had before.

I would almost never even try to run an old game in newer versions of Windows. They almost always break in some dumb way.

The problem I have with RCT now is there's nothing new for me.

I've beaten the game to the point of conquering it and now I feel as if I have no reason for me to play it ever again. I want to continue but it seems pointless to me. Please tell me there's something I can do.

>> No.1627718

>>1627691
I'm planning on doing some kind of contest, if there is enough interest maybe that would be a good OP.

Plan is 1 or 2 weeks time to build a small park on a file I'll give out (50x50 park, owned Land smaller than That), 1ride where you need to design the track for and one ride minimum. The save contains custom scenery. Winner for nicest park would be decided on strawpoll. Any interest? Should be doable without much time pressure.
