Batman

Both the Mario Lands

Kirby's Dream Land
Kirby's Pinball Land
Zelda Link's Awakening
Final Fantasy Adventure

Motocross Maniacs
Wario Blast
Any variation of Tetris. There's a few and they're all fun.

actually I remember having that Popeye game as well. Anybody played it? it was decent and I liked it so I finished it several times.

>Game & Watch Gallery 1-3

I think I have the 2nd one. I was kinda excited because it had a black colored cartridge.

Pokemon Blue is always worth it but I wouldn't touch it anymore. Pkmn Trading Card Game is also recommend.

Kirby's Dream Land 1 and 2

It would help to know which genres in particular. The GB has a pretty big library. Indiscriminate recommendations will consist of too many results to be useful to anybody.

I guess I can make some recommendations based on genre, and I'll try to skip any of the really common games like Kirby or Zelda.

>Platformer and general action games:

Bomberman Max (Red and Blue variations) - A good single-player Bomberman game. You have different objectives in each stage, like defeating specific enemies or freeing Charaboms.

Battle of Olympus - Port of the same game for NES, but I think it's a European exclusive.

Blaster Master Boy - It's actually a sequel to RoboWarrior for NES, which itself is a spin-off of the Bomberman series. It's like a mix of Bomberman and the overhead stages from Blaster Master.

Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge - A huge improvement over CV Adventure. You can choose the stages in any order, and you get passwords.

Gargoyle's Quest - A spin-off of Ghosts 'n Goblins. You play as a Red Arremer. The gameplay feels like Mega Man meets Zelda II in a Halloween setting.

Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters - A pretty good sequel to the NES game. The game definitely feels easier, and it has a backup battery for saving.

Ninja Gaiden Shadow - It was originally supposed to be a sequel to Shadow of the Ninja, but was rebranded. Gameplay is pretty much the same.

>Shoot' em up / run and gun:

ZAS - Japanese import. It's a vertical shooter with some very nice scrolling backgrounds. The powerups are limited, and the game itself is pretty short. Still a nice little gem.

Nemesis and Gradius: The Interstellar Assault (or Nemesis: Return of the Hero in Europe, I think)

Operation C - Which is a Contra title. The stages are basically rehashed levels from other Contra games, and it's pretty short overall.

Contra: The Alien Wars - Sort of a port of Contra III, but of course watered down for the GameBoy. In Europe, I think it's known as Probotector 2.

I've recently been buying a ton of Gameboy games at boot fairs and flea markets, now that they are cheap and no one wants them. Here's my current collection.

One thing I just thought of though.

It doesn't work well with a Game Boy Micro, if that's what they play on.

The plastic screen cover on the GBM makes it useless in direct sunlight by being too reflective.

If they're using a GBA or GBASP though, you're golden.

Oh, one more thing. Buy them a bottle of sunscreen. I'm not fucking kidding.

>> No.1621862 [DELETED]

>>1621853
The game requires spending an hour or so in direct sunlight, for every 6-8 hours played, just to keep up your in-game cashflow, and solve dungeon puzzles.

You want to play as much of it as you can outside, in direct sunlight, which can be problematic for people who burn easily.

The first summer I played it, I wound up redder than a beet, and it hurt to lie down or sit on anything.

Completely worth it.

The game picks up UV radiation, not just ambient light levels, and you don't need extended periods of sunlight, just an hour or less on any day you do play it.

If it's raining, play under an umbrella, or by an open window. If it's cloudy or otherwise overcast, or even foggy, there's still going to be UV that the game can pick up.

My recommendations from my collection:

Final fantasy legend 3 - Great little portable rpg with a fun time-travel plot and immense music. The battle system is a bit less deep/obtuse than the predecessor and it plays more like a normal final fantasy or dragon quest game.

Gauntlet 2 - The classic 4 player madness is still good in single player due to this version having been tweaked to accommodate single players. Still 2 player over link though!

Mega man 2 - It's mega man 2, sort of? Half the stages from 2 and half from 3 but it's still mega man and it's still mega fun. I haven't played the other ones as much but I do know 5 is a totally original game so worth trying too.

Harvest Moon 2 - Technically GBC but still fun on GB. Make a farm! Grow onions!

Final fantasy adventure - It's kind of like zelda mixed with secret of mana (yes I know it's the prequel), which reminds me...

Link's awakening - The best zelda game. Sorry OOT, but link's awakening has never given me a game breaking bug, and you've done it to me twice. Best music on GB too.

Super mario 1 + 2 - REQUIRED.

Pokemon gen 1 + 2 - SEE ABOVE

Micro Machines - race tiny cars! It's fun!

Desert strike - surprisingly playable!

Lemmings - likewise!

Bust a move 4 - How do you play coloured bubble matching without color? like this!

Wario Blast - Single player bomberman should not be fun. Yet here we are.

Tetris - You already own this.

Pacman - press select on the title screen and you're good to go for wakkawakkawakka

BE AWARE OF:

Radar battle - or whatever it was called. It's goddamn battleships man. AGAINST THE COMPUTER.

Double Dragon - Just... ugh. No. Just don't.

Castlevania 1 - You will break your gameboy due to bullshit.

Kirby 1 - Fantastic game that I beat in 20 minutes on first try. May be a tad easy?

Would be just amazing though. They could have just made new sprite graphics from scratch and not just try and port the entire PC game with all the features and it would've been still a GOAT.

My cart and it's title screen both say Final Fantasy Legend 3, the name of the english translation, which is what I have. If it was the japanese version I'd have called it SaGa 3, but it's not so I didn't.

I really enjoy my megaman 2 cart. I don't see what's wrong with it? It plays great, the graphics are nice and clear and cartoony, the music is great and it's pretty darn challenging but has the grace to include a password system, a good one too! I have all five on a pirate multi-cart, but I find it hard to get into the others.

Also I called it Final Fantasy Adventure in deference to the largely american 4chan audience. I accept I should have called it by it's proper name, Mystic Quest, like it says on the cart and title screen.

Also I should put in another vote for TMNT 3 radical rescue. I don't own it myself, but my friend has a copy and it's pretty great.

But they are two different series. If a Fire Emblem game gets translated and released as an Advance Wars game to sell more copies, it would still be a Fire Emblem game regardless of its name

I've been playing Boxxle, a very early GB title. It's a simple box sliding puzzle game, but it has over 100 levels and if you're into puzzle games it'll keep you entertained for hours.

Looks more like a scrolling level based game than the Bubble Bobble-type stages the original uses.

You don't call Super Mario Bros 2 Doki Doki Panic, do you?
You don't call Advance Wars Game Boy Wars Advance do you?
You don't call Streets of Rage Bare Knuckle do you?

Of course not, because they were localised and given different names, amongst other changes. Hence, it's not SaGa 3, it's Final Fantasy Legend 3. If you really hate the idea of it being referred to as a Final Fantasy game that much, think of it like this: It's not a Final Fantasy game, it's a Final Fantasy Legend game. It's a different thing, like Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles or Final Fantasy Mystic Quest.

Seconded on Bond, been replaying it recently and while it's not obvious where to find the hammer and Marrakesh is a bit slow the rest of the game is pretty damn good.

>Mega Man II
>good

III, IV and V definitely, and possibly Dr. Wily's Revenge, but not II. II is fucking horrible. Terrible music, crap levels, botched physics, just avoid it like the plague.

Anyway, If you have to play one GB Mega Man, play IV. Beautiful game, really well designed all told, just the right difficulty too.

I mean, the enemy hitboxes are really vague, ladders are really wonky, you can't jump through boss doors, that sort of thing. Mega Man himself isn't too bad, especially as they fixed his jump from Dr. Wily's Revenge, but it seriously doesn't feel right.

MM2 GB was made by a low-rent developer that didn't know shit about Mega Man. The other Game Boy titles were made by the same company which did have fans on the team.

I've just booted up my original copy of pic related on a GBA SP (the brighter model) and noticed a color palette which is cool.

Is it normal to have a bit of "bleeding" when in motion? It's not game breaking or anything, but it's been a while since I played gameboy games.

That depends on the game. Pokémon Gold and Silver work on an original Game Boy, though a couple of features are disabled like Mystery Gift. Metal Gear Ghost Babel does not.

That´s a ghosting effect due to the screen pixel refresh rate. PSP 1000 had that issue, but I don´t know about the GBA SP.

Anyone remembers this GB game that was a Pac-man clone but with racecars? Had sum gud melodies.

There was a sport game too I forgot about defeating some stereotyped opponents in the olympics trials. Was a button mashing nightmare.
