There was a fuckton of bullshit about Pokemon.

I remember reading one where if you did some shit, got into battle with a lickitung, tried to give it a rare candy and then turn the gameboy upside and shake it, it would evolve into Luigi.

And then something where you could fuse all the legendary birds together to create one big clusterfuck pokemon.

There was a bunch of bullshit being spread around back in the day about a lot of things, but Pokemon in particular was a huge target. I've often wondered why that is.

Maybe the whole missingno. thing just got peoples imaginations fired up. That shit spread like crazy. I knew about it long before I ever got a computer with internet access.

The creature in the picture is Mew, a rare Pokemon that can only be obtained through special events or cheats of some sort.

Pokemon is an RPG, so the game will impose limitations to travel by placing obstacles or requirements in your way.

For example, you can't progress to the next "boss" without obtaining items to remove the obstacle.

Normal gameplay will prevent you from accessing the truck in the picture; it requires some foresight or trading. Thus, it was rumored that if you came to the truck, you'd find Mew as a hidden reward. It was false and many players wasted their time.

The picture shows Mew watching the player-character search the truck in vain.

In Red/Blue, you have to get on a cruise ship for part of the game. when walking on to the ship, you can see a truck parked in an area that can't be accessed at that point in the game. it was a pretty popular rumor that if you found a way to get to the truck you would unlock Mew, a Pokemon not obtainable in normal gameplay

Lavender town wasn't huge like the Pokegods back in the day, but it kind of crossed over with the Porygon anime episode and that's where part of the myth came from (instead of kids getting seizures from flashing lights, strange sounds made them want to kill themselves or something)

The dev completely rendered the island and all interior locations + dungeons. The map is basically 100% complete and he released everything he had in hopes that someone would finish the game.No one has stepped up yet as far as I know

This isn't really as much of a myth or an urban legend as it is really just me being a gullible child.

My older brother and his best friend whom of which are 7 years older than me used to tell me all the time that when you beat the game and catch all 151 Pokemon that the guy upstairs in the Celladon city building would give you a map that would work in real life that would show you the way to 'Pokemon Island' where real Pokemon roam about.

Needless to say, being the gullible child that I was I believed it for years. Years later I eventually I found out how to do the Mew Glitch and then tried to talk to him only to find out the guy lets you print a stupid certificate with the GB-Printer that says you caught all the Pokemon.
A STUPID CERTIFICATE. NIGGA I WANTED A MAP TO MY POGEMAN. I was fucking pissed.

I still love Red version though. I've done every glitch in the book.

I heard you could battle Red's mom in Gold/Silver if you talked to her 88 times, and that she had extremely high level Pokemon. If you defeat her, you unlock Mew.

This wasn't really a rumor, it was back when Supercheats was still popular and kids could post all sorts of crazy stuff there.

I also remember a couple of Kingdom Hearts rumors, like unlocking Cloud as a party member and getting Riku and Mickey's keyblades by opening every treasure chest in the game.
